Project Summary

The project “European citizens: live differently, live sustainably” is part of a sustainable development and citizenship process where students are actors and empowered to environmental issues. In Europe, the environmental issue is at the focus of citizen and political concerns. Participating countries are experiencing the effects of climate change and are keen to educate students about environmental problems by confronting them with real ecological situations. The activities deployed in the 5 partner countries enable young people aged 15 to 18 to develop linguistic, technological and know-how skills to “live together”.

-In France, the activity consists in setting up an autonomous operating weather station thanks to renewable energy (photovoltaic panels). This sequence will be taught in each partner (benchmarking).
-In Italy, they will study the management of the territory (reclaimed land) and the impact of water on an area ranging from Piave in Veneto to the lagoon of Venice (Mose project).
– In Romania, meanwhile, they will study the impact of pollution on the environment of Baia Mare heavily affected by chemical plants.
-Bulgaria will work on two actions: recycling food to become useful fuels (biogas, compost, permaculture) and measuring the impact of open coal mines on the environment and soils.
-Portugal, thanks to the actions of the type “Clean up the nature”, recovers recyclable waste to give them a second life transformed into artistic objects.

The expected results, beyond training and developing skills to know and do sustainable living among young people and adults, will be achieved by the collective writing of a document (guide of good practices) available on each website of the schools and widespread to local actors.
We are planning to make a translation of this guide in English in the short term so that it can be replicated in other institutions, especially in developing countries. In the medium term, we are offering to analyse the data and define the best alternative energy according to the local conditions. In the long term, we are planning to be able to transfer our skills and technology to produce autonomous energy in an isolated environment (eg “a school in Madagascar”).
