Project Summary

Our project really began to take shape in Munich, at the first transnational project meeting. There we verified the difficulty of working with different work schedules and we chose the most appropriate dates to visit each country. We decided to maximize the number of participants and the work methodology to follow to achieve our objectives. After that meeting, we carried out a logo contest, promoting the use of new technologies for that purpose.

1. The first meeting in Karlstad served to continue developing these skills. The vehicular language of the training course was in English, but among the students, they came to practice other languages. The tasks developed by the multinational teams served to break the cultural barriers by learning to complement each other and to be more understanding, converting dialogue into a working tool to solve problems and reach agreements. This contributed unity in the groups and helped to consolidate the proposed objectives.
The main event in this meeting was the photo course given by Swedish professional photographers, who usually teach and do workshops for the Swedish students who study at the media section on the school. The project participants learned how to use a professional camera and all its functions.

2. In Rome, we provide training in the use of the podcasts, a bit more photography and editing of web pages. There was a greater follow-up to the podcast, assignments were assigned and a great fieldwork was done with greater freedom of movement due to the number of places of interest that the city has. In this course they were stressed that they were careful with the previous preparation of the interviews, with the background noise and with the use of the microphone to take care of the quality of the audios. Before fieldwork, we did tests with students at the school.

3. In Bordeaux, following the methodology, we created multicultural teams again. In this meeting, the training focused mainly on creative writing and podcast, working on the photographic part and the data dump on the project’s website. After obtaining the materials, in the following days, the material was digitally edited in the classrooms. Teachers from all schools were present in each classroom to supervise the work.

4. In Valencia, the Spanish team did an excellent planning that served to be able to teach the training courses, avoid transport restrictions in the week previous to the festival to succeed in visiting places of interest and consolidate the materials obtained, uploading later the material to the project website. In this meeting, we mainly worked on photography, podcasting and material management on the project website. When managing a large number of students, we enable two work classrooms to simultaneously give podcast and photography courses, exchanging them the next day. This allowed all the students to have minimal notions to work as a team. Some 70 students attended these courses. The last days, by teams, students used the material that had been obtained in different activities to work for the web page.

5. In Munich, we reviewed podcast concepts and developed more the management of the website. We alternated training and field work with work on the project page, remembering the established work standards to obtain a quality page. The students worked in teams and we ended up closing the week with a meeting with an event that appeared in the local newspapers, and that was shared by all participating schools. We also finished the project´s website, except for small details which later were managed by each responsible student group on distance.

In general terms, we can affirm that the objective of our project has been achieved. The ways in which the project has been carried out, has allowed students to have the opportunity to acquire digital skills in each meeting. On a technical level, they have learned to work with a web page, with digital cameras and photo editing and with the podcast and creative writing. The work in multicultural teams has aroused curiosity and admiration for other cultures and has in turn created bonds of friendship between students and teachers. It has worked with diversification in a natural way, breaking clichés and prejudices. Throughout each meeting we have managed to give the necessary training to move forward in the project, marking the students short- and long-term goals according to the knowledge they were acquiring. The final result has been the development of the project website with the objectives met. In addition, all schools have contributed a direct link to the project page from our web pages. To have a greater impact we have all been published in different medias (websites, newspapers) in our respective countries. Our goal is that this Erasmus+ experience serves as an example not only to the students and teachers who have participated but to the entire center.
