Project Summary

The project « Des écoles européennes engagées pour les ODD » (« European Schools engaged with SDGs ») is a continuation of the previous project entitled « 5×4 ODD – des Ecoles Européennes sur le chemin du développement durable ». Four out of the five partner schools were already involved in the project on SDGs (the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations) : Groupe scolaire des Chevreuils and Collège Emilie Carles in Ancerville, France ; Scoala Gimnaziala 2 in Hunedoara, Romania ; Dalbeattie High School in Dalbeattie, Scotland ; they would like to continue the work on sustainable development while associating another school with it : Ekpaideythria Panou in Nafpaktos, Greece.
As progress was made on the previous project which focused on four SDGs (SDG 3 Good health and well-being, SDG 4 Quality education, SDG 14 Life below water and SDG 12 Responsible consumption and production), many related themes emerged without us having the time to develop them. Indeed, the SDGs are linked to each other and each working theme, already very rich and interesting, has led to the emergence of other issues and to the need to tackle other SDGs. This is what motivates us to continue the work on sustainable development, this time focusing on five new SDGs, one of which will be the common thread. SDG 13 Climate action will have this role and will serve as a link between the four others which will be worked on successively (SDG 15 Life on land, SDG 7 Affordable and clean energy, SDG 11 Sustainable cities and communities, SDG 5 Gender equality). In this project, we would also like to emphasize connections between the various SDGs.
Students will be able to study some aspects of their curriculum, to work on projects in groups, to study real-life situations and conduct field trips (during visits or mobilities), to identify the actions to take every day to achieve the SDGs and to promote these actions within their schools and in their local communities (posters to promote engagement, encourage debate and make short videos to raise awareness of the SDG issues). Throughout the project, the leading teachers in each school will be in contact to follow up and coordinate the work done. Each school will be given a responsibility for running the project (global monitoring and coordination for the French secondary school, twinspace management for the Greek school, follow-up of evaluation for the Scottish school, communication and timetable for the Romanian school, quality control for the French primary school).
In addition to acquiring basic written, oral and communicative skills and scientific knowledge (related to the SDGs worked on), students will improve their digital, linguistic, cultural and inter-cultural abilities and will be able to experience European mobility as well as project work. We hope that this project will perpetuate environmentally responsible habits in the schools and in their areas of influence.
Students will thus take an active part in sustainable development and be world citizens, fully aware of the issues at stake now and in the future.
Such a project can also benefit teachers (improvement of digital and inter-cultural skills, development of project dynamics within staff, cultural openness).
