Project Summary

European Students’ Union Cooperation (ESUC) was a project that aimed to fill a crucial gap within the field of students unions and university students lives. As mentioned in the application, Students’ Unions play a vital role in empowering youth and providing greater opportunities for their future. Outstanding organisations like European Students’ Union exist to aid in the promotion of these opportunities, representing 15 million students as well as 46 national Students’ Unions. However, there was a key missing element that our organization,Youth Action International found.

Before ESUC, there were no platforms for autonomous Students’ Unions to interact and collaborate internationally with one another. There still is much uncertainty about what Brexit means for cooperation between students and students’ associations, for both the UK and from the European Union. The consequences might include a decreasing number of collaboration between students on international level. For this reason, Youth Action International and Youth of Europe, alongside two Students’ Unions from University of West London and Wroclaw University of Economic joined together and through 3 blended mobilities and 2 transnational project meetings, created a platform that promotes international collaboration and inclusion among Students’ Unions. We have seen and hope to continue to see this result in the building of strategic partnerships between European youth in the process.

Our platform http://esuc.eu is completely student driven and will continue to increase international partnerships and international projects as well as be a vital tool for Students’ Unions to learn from each other. By creating more international projects with SUs, students will build larger European networks thereby propagating the message of a united Europe.

Thanks to the Blended Mobilities, we fostered the organisational capability to exchange best practices among SUs and create new standards of student project management. Everything from website design, creating the website itself, marketing plan, and management was upheld by members who believed in the ESUC vision. We learned from each other every step of the way, and grew in our capabilities and understanding for future international projects. Also important to mention is through the broadening of resources and contacts, SUs participant increase in productivity, innovation, and in one of the European Union’s’ main goals of uniting Europeans in a common vision. Our platform will be created, tested, and applied through 2 Transnational Project Meetings in London where we will address all logistical matter, and the 3 Blended Mobilities in Poland where we identify the structures and needs within the partner SUs, and come up with further content creation for the platform. By the end of these gatherings, profiles will be created by each SU and the exchange of materials, ideas and contacts will begin. Initially, The English and Polish Universities will be our target group, however our intention for this platform and strategic partnerships is to spread this innovation to all European nations and independent universities therein.
