Project Summary

“How can an increasingly technological world be a more human world? And the answer to this question can only come from education”. 1 Information and Communication Technologies are now taking a prominent place in our society and school must assist the student in the era of the XXIth century and help them become a responsible digital citizen. This mission is at the heart of Education to the media and Information, which is itself closely related to the teaching of languages. Reaching the information given by media sources is above all reaching the meaning of the language which conveys this information. The European waves on the Internet Radio fits into this diptych (which is not meant to remain a one time thing). In this project, we have two sources of concern, “material results” on the one hand, and the acquisition of skills and knowledge on the other hand. Indeed, if this collective project materializes by recording multilingual shows and creating an internet radio on a European scale in each of our partner institutions, it will be also punctuated by the acquisition of many skills determined in the common core of knowledge, such as the use of media in a responsible and well-reasoned manner or the production, communication and sharing of information in the source language and in other languages, through written and oral work. We should remember that, in general philosophy, the commom core of knowledge is part of the school programs’ renewal plan established by the European Parliament in 2005. Four European countries will be involved in this project (France, Italy, Spain and Romania) and, in each secondary school, pupils (from 15 to 18) and teachers will take part in this mission. There will be four mobilities, one in each partner country. The goals of those meetings are to make people discover the cultural environment of different cities, to communicate with the inhabitants, to create multilingual radio programs about European current events and to develop foreign languages skills. There will be several virtual and physical meetings which will allow us to talk about our different experiences and to keep going with the media production. Thus, pupils will develop their critical mind towards European news, their spirit of initiative and their linguistic fluency. In this collective undertaking, the student will develop autonomy through the specificity of his role, but also his interdependence by the combination of the missions of one another. The functioning of an Internet radio being emphasized by the three moments of preparation, programming and production, the student will acquire organizational skills to make a final good-quality product which he will be able to reuse for his future school years. The radio studios established in the different European schools will be beneficial to future generations. Actually, the long term objective is to make this project carry on, to pass down the benefits acquired during those exchanges between pupils and adults and to extend this notion of European citizenship by developing the taste for travelling abroad.
