Project Summary
European Union (EU) surveys (Eurostat, Eurobarometer, EMCDDA) show that many life aspects of youth have improved in EU in recent years. Nevertheless based on the same EU surveys and the experience of youth work organisations Zavod Bob and Tähe Youth Club we can say that in Estonia and in Slovenia there are a notable number of young people worthy of more attention in perspective of their inclusion and participation, especially youth at-risk. Street-based youth work (SBYW) is one of the ways to do it. It is an approach of youth work and is a way to reach youth at risk (e.g. NEET, immigrants, socially excluded youth) since work takes place in real life environment of youth and it takes into account the individual’s social context as well as include the community aspect. SBYW is building a bridge between youth at-risk and relevant institutions and it is a way how youth at-risk have support for their participation in wider context of the society by creating for them and with them a positive experience of participation.
Partnering organisations Zavod Bob and Tähe Youth Club are both practicing SBYW. Shared mission of both partner organizations and the main aim of the (Ex)Change Street Reality project it to improve SBYW practice of both partner organizations on the level of support elements and implementation of the activities in order to enrich participation of youth at risk. We developed a project for exchanging practices, peer intervision and feedback for empowering practitioners and organizations implementing SBYW through exchange of good practices between Zavod Bob and Tähe Youth Club. To achieve this we will:
Implement two study visits (one in Estonia and one in Slovenia) for 14 participants. To answer the needs we identified assets and good practices of both partner organizations. In both study visits we will share good/existing practices and assets that we detected, give feedback and reflect upon it, as well as search for possible improvements. The topics will be: specific practice of partner organizations, approaches, method and activities that support and engage youth at-risk participation (individual and community approach, mobile youth work), activities and method on the level of support elements (networking, informing, raising awareness, quality monitoring and evaluation). This is a precondition so we can improve our everyday practice of SBYW for higher participation of at-risk youth.
Strengthen practices of both partner organizations in order to better support and engage participation of youth at-risk. After the study visits each organization will reflect upon new knowledge, skills, attitude and feedback with an aim to strengthen existing practice, do a local action plan with concrete steps of how to implement new or upgrade existing activities, methods, methodologies for better reaching youth at-risk, establishing quality rapport and support them in relevant areas of life. Also each organization will research which of the support elements can be upgraded, strengthen or developed based on the new knowledge, skills, attitudes and feedback gained, they will define priorities and make an action plan for improving the level of support elements for street-based youth work.
Have 7 intervisions sessions in order to support the implementation of the improvements. Participants of the project will monthly participate in the online intervision.
Have 2 transnational project meetings with 6 participants for well planned and evaluated project. The goal of the first kick-off meeting is to establish a basis for future collaboration of both partners and set detailed plan for implementation of project activities. Second meeting will take place in order to evaluate the project, to celebrate project results and to make future plans.
Publish the e- publication of the good practices on 20 pages.
The methodology of the project will base on non-formal education. All participants of the project will actively participate in the process in a coworking way – they will share responsibilities, knowledge, create new understanding and work together to form action plans. Furthermore process will be based on theory of experiential learning cycle – all participants will experience, reflect, and plan steps for change/improvement.
Pimary target group of the project are youth (and other) workers implementing SBYW practice, indirect target group are relevant stakeholders and decision makers that can support everyday practice of SBYW. But also we identify the target group of youth at-risk that we reach with implementation of SBYW. So primary 14 participants of the project are practitioners that are implementing SBYW practice from Zavod Bob and Tähe Youth Club, the ones that run activities on the level of support elements and ones that are indirectly connected with SBYW practice (e.g. workers in the youth centre).
The main result of the project is improved SBYW practice of Zavod Bob and Tähe Youth Club on the level of support system and i
