Project Summary

The main objective of the project was to enhance the student’s interest in history, to understand that what we are now is a result of many historical events which form the present and the future as well. It is important to teach children to appreciate our culture, history, region and to preserve our cultural and historical heritage. This way we can educate young people who will be proud citizens and will be tolerant to other cultures at the same time.
What we have in common is the food. Through discovering traditional meals, their history, stories about them, what is behind these traditions and local foods, we could discover our history and regions.
Because of the language barrier we decided to communicate in English, use of English and improvement of communicative skills of students and the teachers was another great advantage of this project together with improvement in ICT usage. These were needed for project planning, presentations and communication between the schools and for the implementation of the project results. Students needed to use their knowledge of Geography, Citizenship and History.
All off the activities planned within the project were task based, students needed to prove themselves in problem solving and cooperation.
When attending the mobilities participants took part in the school lessons, participated in The school in a museum.
Project was planned for eight participants from each school, six students and two teachers. Students were 10-11 years old and they learned about our countries cultural and historical heritage.
The teachers strengthened partners’ capacity by sharing knowledge and good practice in Regional education, English language and communication skills.
There were four activities for student mobilities planned in this project, which were follow up activities after a period of planning, virtual meetings and bilateral communication.
The first two activities were done as mobilities, but because of the actual pandemic situation the next two mobilities were done online, using Teams application. One of the participant countries, Spain, left the project in June 2020, and didn’t continue the project. Coordinator of the project, Slovak school, took over their activity.
The participants of the project :
-broadened their historical knowledge about both regions,
-became aware of our cultural and historical heritage,
-improved their communicative skills in English language,
-gained experience in international project management,
-got motivation for their work and studies,
-created a platform to further cooperation between our schools with a perspective of including more countries into the project.

Participating organizations gained confident teachers who acquired new professional and practical skills.
By sharing knowledge and good practice teachers are now able to implement these in their everyday practice.
Our schools gained better reputation within the regions.
We also highly appraise new personal contacts between the students and teachers.
