Project Summary
Reading and writing literacy is one of the most important skill for life. For employability, social inclusion and self-sufficiency reading-writing literacy, comprehension skills in reading play a great role.
European Commission states that in Europe, approximately 20% of the young generation is not equipped with the necessary basic skills in literacy, mathematics, science and technology.
According to the results of PISA 2015 most of the countries in our partnership could not reach a good level of achievement in literacy skills.
According to the international PIRLS 2016 results, which assess reading comprehension skills of 4th grade pupils in the world, all the partners in our partnership have failed in getting a good level of success and some of them have decreased their level of success.
For Literacy and Inclusion through Fun and Edutainment (4LIFE) project has its motivation to develop partner schools’ pupils’ literacy skills through different methods,good practices and innovative techniques. 4LIFE aims to combine literacy issues and inclusion as we believe reading comprehension, writing skills and books are the best means to provide inclusion at schools and in the social communities with collaborative and cooperative work. 4LIFE is motivated with the motto ;’ Reading&Writing is LIFE and LIFE is Inclusion’. What can be a better way for inclusion than books?
Thorugh the project activities and trainings we would like to achive the following objectives.
– enhanced inclusion of all disadvantaged pupils in school education
– good practices around Europe to teach literacy skills and for better inclusion in schools will be shared
– schools’ staff’s competences to teach literacy will be developed
– literacy skills, reading comprehension and writing abilities of pupils will increase
– schools will add European value into their education and bring a European Dimension to their schools
– the number of early school leavers will be decreased with innovative, fun and edutaining activities
– with continuous communication among the pupils throughout the project and European value added into the school education pupils will feel like and be better European citizens
– communication skills of both pupils and schools’ staff will be improved in their second language ;English and mother tongue
– reading habits will be acquired by parents and pupils
– schools’ staff’s personal horizons will be broadened after seeing different methods and techniques in a different school
– disadvantaged pupils will increase their sense of belongings to school
– development and creation of new teaching materials
– social inclusion of disadvantaged pupils will be developed
– pupils will gain digital reading skills
– point of view of pupils to books will be more positive
– pupils and teachers and all public will improve their knowledge and awareness of Eeuropean cultural heritage
– new aspects to develop reading comprehension and writing skills will be shared with all European educators, reading comprehension of pupils will be facilitated and developed as they will think about the drama, toy, game, storytelling techniques, collaborative learning techniques, music, picture of the text they read
The concrete results of the project will be 6 Learning Teaching Training activities with school staff on how teach literacy and provide better inclusion at schools with 1 – collaborative teaching, 2 – technology, 3 – games and music, 4 – art and storytelling, 5 – drama and Buddy method and 6 – outdoor learning.The other concrete results will be dramas, contests, musicals, puppet shows and creation of puppets, digital comics, E-radio broadcasts, E-magazines, digital games and books, E-book of the project, reading with public events, read and act campaign, toys of books, boardgames, orchestras, scrapbooks, padlets of the project, songs creation, youtube channel and song covers.
The participants to the Leaning Teaching and Training activities will be school staff. Two members of school staff will represent their school in each LTT Activity at the partner school. 4LIFE targets primary school pupils aged from 4 to 12. All activities of the project will be done with pupils locally. Let’s Work Together activities on Skype and Padlet of pupils with partner schools’ pupils will provide face to face communication among pupils.
As a result of the project all schools will improve their competences in teaching literacy, literacy skills of pupils will improve, schools will have a newly adapted curriculum that incorporated literacy with inclusion , all schools have loads of new materials and methods to use to teach literacy and all partner schools will be international schools.
