Project Summary

Through a school exchange programme between the UK and Spain we wish to promote creative approaches to learning modern foreign languages and their traditions through Music. We expect that by applying music based teaching and learning methods will increase the effectiveness and engagement of early language learning. There is a deep and profound relationship between music and language. Music supports the acquisition of basic competences in learners such as languages skills, learning motivation, self-confidence, cultural learning and expression. Music transcends financial and educational barriers which some of our children face and we believe this approach will enable our children to feel like global citizens by learning and celebrating music in a target language. We planned to showcase their learning with a musical performance here in UK and in Spain at a local theatre (University of Kent and Boadilla del Monte Auditorio) presenting to the wider school, parents and families. We are confident in our pupils engagement with this initiative as we have a strong reputation for celebrating the wider the curriculum and a well resourced music and performing arts department. Specialist teachers and support staff involved in the exchange plan to build lasting links to enhance resources and teaching methods within the host schools to ensure that both Spanish and English are taught to a high standard.
