Project Summary
In our project “From Good to Perfect – we found a Societas Europaea” the students should, in a first step, found fictional local companies. Those companies with their business plan, marketing concept and cost accounting have to be presented, explained and defended in front of a jury of teachers. The managers of the best companies of each industry (or the best presented ones) will then be allowed to travel to the partner countries (six students per country per trip). This is where the second part of the project starts – the students will be divided into new groups, just one student per country what makes five students from fife different countries per newly founded company, which will lead to six new groups (companies). Those six companies must then develop a concept for a Societas Europaea, a European company which they have to present to an international teacher jury at the end of the week. The students mostly are responsible on their own to find out about regulations and laws on SE’s and adapt them to their companies. In addition they get more input by lectures or speeches held by international managers or other qualified personnel from companies and also from guided tours in international companies during this week. The produced material that describes the companies will be spread through eTwinning and the homepages and the final presentations will be filmed and shown to the ones that had stayed at home during that trip. Consequently they can also learn from the experience of the students that were traveling.
All students participating in the project are a bit older already and will soon be in contact with the job market and the business world. All students also have business as a subject, most of them volunteered for this choice, so that they do not only have some knowledge but also motivation to work on that topic.
Aims are first to learn that Europe not only profits from different know-how and competences of its various countries and regions but also the different characters, knowledge and approaches of the people involved in an international project. In addition language competence should also be promoted, of course. By communicating with other students from four different partner countries English as means of communication is essential for the students. So the use of this language is natural and obligatory. By having students staying in host countries the students get a close insight into the culture of the host country and therefore their intercultural competence is promoted strongly.
At the end there will be about 30 new companies the students founded, which were strongly upgraded through International teamwork. The students not only had to learn to step up for their opinions and work actively to get a solution, but also had to learn to find and accept compromises and step back for the good of the whole idea and the team. Competition will be fostered and demanded, and in addition team spirit and togetherness. This should promote the improvement of the personality of the students in the long run. In addition the students learned about laws and regulations concerning the foundation of SE’s as well as they were able to collect information on big companies in general. Altogether the project should push language competence and self-confidence together with negotiating skills.
