Project Summary

We intend, as a 21st century school, to prepare our students for an academic and professional future on an international scale, promoting the key skills for today’s society (communication, peer collaboration, critical thinking and creativity) through innovative, dynamic and inclusive teaching methods.
With this project we intend to use games in a regular basis as an innovative teaching method. We want to use it to improve students’ achievements at the same time we increase their motivation and pleasure of learning.
As Games provide different levels of difficulty and resolution the project is aimed at students of primary school, including students with learning disabilities and/or special needs..
Games plays an important role in the social development of individuals. Indoors or outdoors, individually or in teams, games increase personal and social skills, such as responsibility, acceptance, tolerance, understanding, dealing with frustration, collaboration. Playing games one learns to win and to loose, the importance of respect, training, focusing, and striving.
Our goals are:
1. Increase the use of innovative teaching methods, exchange of good practices and sharing of materials.
2. Promote and develop the use of ICT
3. Increase languages learning by the use of CLIL
4. Promote inclusive education, providing different answers for different needs
5. Promote the knowledge and understanding of different cultures and lifestyles
6. Develop personal and social skills and competences
7. Promote active, meaningful and lasting learning
8. Promote the practice of active and responsible citizenship.
Under the huge theme “Europe”, different curricula areas will be addressed and the learning process will be contextualized. Games will be chosen for their pedagogical potential providing motivating challenges for students who will take an active role in their learning process.
For teachers the use of games will foster cooperation and articulation among different educational levels and subjects.
All participants will improve their teamwork and communication skills as well as creativity and action. .
So by the use of games we”ll be fulfilling our intentions.
With this project we expect to achieve
1 – better communication skills and use of a foreign language (English).
2 – better social skills, like teamwork and social relations, as well as self esteem and work abilities.
3 – improved digital competences by the frequent use of ICT
4 – wider knowledge of different cultures and lifestyles, understanding and acceptance of difference.
5 – high level of teachers’ cooperation
6 – better academic results.
The more significant activities will be, first of all, the creation of a LOGO to identify the partnership. Then a TREASURE BOX organized with the suggestions of students with the best representative items of each country (e.g. riddles, songs, traditional game) will travel around from school to school so pupils can learn and compare; a GAME OF THE MONTH chosen by teachers and played by all classes; BOARD/TRIVIA/CARD GAMES to be played in each school according to the age and level of students and new ones to be created; GEOCACHING, after the registration of the partnership as a team, all participants will start playing by searching caches in the surroundings of school and creating one under the official rules of this world wide game. Parents will be invited to take part on this activity; following the spaghetti method, each class will contribute to the writing process of a chapter per participating school with two different ending options of an OPEN ENDED GAME BOOK , “Games in Europe – an endless story”; for each used game, class teachers will elaborate a lesson plan and description, to be gathered in a DIGITAL GUIDE BOOK OF GAMES that will remain available at the school Library and the Municipal Library after its publication; students will elaborate BROCHURES/POSTERS/LEAFLETS to inform the community about the project; all partners will take pictures that will be organized in a PHOTO GALLERY and uploaded on the web site and Twinspace.
The use of eTwinning platform will be permanent throughout the project’s longlife for communication, exchange and share of ideas and good practices and dissemination.
Each partner school will host a short-term exchange of groups of pupils and two short-term exchanges of groups of teachers will occur one during each year of the project.
“Open education and innovative practices in a digital era” is our most relevant priority. We’ll be providing students an open, active and creative learning method, while teachers will develop innovative and collaborative teaching methods. As so we will be creating conditions for the development of meaningful and long lasting skills and competencies of communication (digital skills and communication competences in english), critical thinking, collaboration and problem solving, suitable for the multicultural, diverse and inclusive 21st century society.
