Project Summary

The project History and its Effects of today’s Youth (HEY) is based on the idea that understanding history is crucial relating to develop the present and the future common Europe. A vision is to create a common understanding of how wars and conflicts, extremist views, immigration and migration have a reciprocal effect on one another, and look at how they challenge the way we teach history to our students. Each country has its own dramatic past that effects how history is thought in classrooms. The partner schools in HEY is selected based on a desire on bringing a broad range of historical events into the project. Experience in former Erasmus+ projects and eTwinning are other wanted qualifications.
The Croatian partner brings experience in several strategic partnerships and eTwinning to the project. They will arrange a JSE(C1) to develop new teaching methods for the project. Croatia is a country with a dramatic past and they will bring their experiences in teaching their nation’s history into the project. Objectives for C1 is modernization of education. 20 teachers from all five partner schools will participate on C1. Students will take part in preparatory activities and on TwinSpace.
The Spanish partner brings experience in several strategic partnerships and eTwinning to the project. The Spanish history of establish democracy after years under General Franco’s govern will be the starting point for the SLE (C4) in Spain. Objectives to be met in C4 is active citizenship, democratic values and fundamental rights.
The Cypriote partner has some experience in strategic partnership. As Cyprus is a divided island, intercultural dialogue and social inclusion will be the objectives of their SLE (C3). Students and teachers will both practice and experience the value of intercultural dialogue.
Greek partner brings the present situation of the ongoing refugee crisis into the project. Rhodes is a historically multicultural society and the present situation will be analysed considering this tradition. Non-discrimination, social, civic and intercultural competences are the objectives to be met in the SLE (C5) in Greek.
Norway is the coordinator of this project and the less experienced partner in European funded projects. Objectives for the SLE(C2) are critical thinking and media literacy. To meet these objectives students and teachers will use the terror attack on Utøya, right-wing extremism and hatred in social media as basis for developing new understanding and new skills.
The project has two main target groups. The first, and most important is young people who will be the next generation of decision makers in their local society, in their countries and in Europe. To reach out to a whole generation is of course an unrealistic dream, but as school-based project, we have a great opportunity to challenge young people’s minds to see the benefits of democracy, co- working and multi-ethnic and multi-cultural societies. If we openly discuss our challenges, are critical to easy solutions provided by populist politicians, and are humble to our differences, we will go far. The dissemination will happen continuously through the whole project period and will continue in the hearts and mind of the involved students and schools.

To reach out to students, teachers have a key role. Therefore, teachers are the other main target of the project. Teachers will participate in all the activities. These teachers will thus have an obligation to share the results and developed methods with their colleagues. The results will be published on the platforms they use on a daily basis.
For all the SLEs (C2-C5) three students, one teacher and one participating person wil travel. That will make a group of 12 students and 8 adults/teachers to each SLE. This amount of students and teachers will make a manageable group to work with the planned program together with students and teachers from the hosting school.
The Cypriote team will administrate the project’s web site and students blog. All digital products from the activities will be shared on the web site and on eTwinning. The Croatian and Spanish team will be responsible for eTwinning activities and support the other partners. Evaluation will be carried out after each JSE and SLE (C1-C5) and at the end of the project period. The Greek team will initiate the evaluation activities.
All the products that has been developed during the project will be included in the HEY ebook. This ebook will be shared both locally at the partner schools, nationally in the partner countries and internationally through eTwinning and the project’s web site.
