Project Summary

While Södra Latins Gymnasium is an urban school based in the central area of thriving Stockholm, IES Norba Caesarina is a school situated in a small town, Cáceres, in Extremadura, one of the poorest European regions hit by unemployment and whose economy has been based around agriculture.

Extremadura is a poor, agriculture area of Europe where unemployment affects a lot of families. Our students come from families that live in Cáceres, a small town with few opportunities to work. Some parents are unemployed. In some cases, only one person works and must provide for the family with a low salary.

We are also convinced of the social and educational value of European cultural heritage and its contribution to the creation of employment, economic growth, and social cohesion. For this reason, we have designed activities which help to learn more about the cultural heritage of Extremadura and Sweden. Our schools have been doing exchanges for seven years and our students have visited the most interesting landmarks in both areas.

Thus, in order to maintain our standard and a better lever of interaction, not only in languages perspective, our schools have planned to work together in a further level within our exchange project called Human History Communication and Reflection, where we believe that our exchange programs are important elements for both schools, but we also believe that we improve our exchange by working within a EU school environment. We are now part of an Erasmus + project and we will continue working together as accredited schools in the fields concerning Cultural Heritage, European Citizenship, and Social Inclusion.
