Project Summary
The walls of the contemporary cities are an inexhaustible catalog of images, either commissioned or subversive: advertising, graffiti, Street Art. The latter in particular rewrites urban spaces as dynamic and narrative tools, often being a product of the active and creative citizenship. The project
Innovative Training Settings for the Self-Development of emerging artists addresses young people through the participatory tool of Contemporary Street Art, supports their growth and offers a useful context for young people to express their imagination and creativity. INSIDES is an educational project aimed at youth empowerment: the production of Street Art involves young people, fostering their creative and social potential, at severe risk due to the current Covid19 epidemic, meanwhile providing specific skills useful to learn how to produce, to promote and to manage artistic activities. INSIDES wishes to contribute to the creation of a young European “artistic citizenship” so that it could manifest its creative potential, for the cultural and economic development of the communities involved. Therefore the project is aimed at young aspiring artists, who also wish to become producers and promoters of art and culture. INSIDES addresses them through an informal and non-formal educational method: the production of original Street Art, whose concrete phases coincide with the educational setting, a learning environment based on creative skills, multi-agent strategies and on the dynamic-experiential approach, which also stimulates youth political participation in a responsible way. Street Art indeed produces strong feelings of identity, strengthening the person-place bond with a contrast to the phenomenon of urban decay. INIDES also implements useful educational strategies to extend the skills of trainers and educators because it provides an example of integrated teaching-learning method for the Fine Arts with innovative languages and transformative experiences, emphasizing the explicit educational power of participatory processes. INSIDES promotes educational units which are immersed in a daily creative setting and in an experiential-dynamic continuity: those units provide young targets with useful knowledge for professions related to culture and Fine Arts including logistic, digital design and strategies for promotion and dissemination. Each educative unit foster the growth of youth micro-entrepreneurship for creativity, sociability and cultural tourism. The Project therefore supports young people so that they are autonomous in becoming producers of cultural activities. The partners involved have rich experience in the field of cultural heritage enhancement, in the development of innovative educational modules for young adults, especially for the development of professional and entrepreneurial skills, but also in the field of the production of artistic and musical events and, lastly, in the field of the innovation of the educative strategies through technology. The partners share experiences in the field of creativity and are active for the protection of youth, structuring a dialogue between Southern and Northern Europe: Italy and Greece, two of the three countries involved, look at the experience of the English partner in order to translate in a transnational way the British underground urban creativity, which has been marked by youth participation, as well as the “poetic of attention” that has thoroughly redesigned English cities over the last decades. The partnership has been established by bringing together apparently distant contexts, thanks to the inclusive capacity of artistic language and the
common experiences related to youth empowerment. INSIDES produces 4 intellectual outputs: each one is helpful for the creation of a learning standard based on creative skills, is able to restore the educational value of the whole project, with attention to new digital technologies for the Fine Arts, while also being able to spread the value of youth creativity. Each intellectual output is an innovative tool to promote the young artists involved and to enhance the territories of activity, supporting the growth of new youth entrepreneurial mindsets to foster communities and culture. Street Art products and all the intellectual outputs are a tangible legacy of the project, a lasting tool for young people to express their voice and creativity, to grow as emerging artists and to become part of a European and international creative network. INSIDES also chooses suburbs and deprived urban areas for the artistic intervention: forgotten urban suburbs which, thanks to art and youth involvement, can become more sustainable. INSIDES is therefore a multifunctional action that promotes the individual and professional growth of young people, at work for the development of communities and territories.
