Project Summary

EU Commission underlines the need to integrate in the educational curricula new ways of learning, more effective for a society that is becoming increasingly mobile and digital (Teaching Languages at School in Europe -2017 Eurydice), such as CLIL which is not so widely spread in formal curricula.
CLIL provides a common framework for all European students to delve into various content areas by using a common language. Its objectives emphasise Key Competences like multilingual and digital competences, personal, social and learning to learn competence, citizenship competence and cultural awareness.
However, Italy, Greece, Spain and Cyprus have a low literacy level in foreign languages, following the Eurostat data for the 2016 and a low spread level of CLIL.
INCLUDE project aims at:
– developing a common European framework for CLIL targeted to lower secondary and upper secondary schools (ISCED 2 and 3) that promotes linguistic and subject related competences and soft skills (with reference to the Council Recommendation on Key Competences 2018), starting from the experiences and good practices already realized in the partner countries and in Europe, and improving, in a participatory way, the capability of teachers in developing educational scenarios and interactive objects, linked to a CLIL approach.
– improving linguistic and subject competences and Key competences (Multilingual and digital competences, personal, social and learning to learn competence -collaboration and communication, creativity and innovation and autonomous learning-, citizenship competence -European and global citizenship- entrepreneurship, cultural awareness) of the students (ISCED 2 and 3)
Whit this aims, INCLUDE will achieve 3 Outputs: a methodological toolkit for teacher to implement the scenarios and educational resources and evaluate students; a open access platform with easy tools to create interactive educational tools and to upload scenarios, 40 pilot scenarios.
The goal is, through the use of multimodal material, to develop learners’ :
– Multiliteracy: teachers and students will realize the increasing importance of cultural and linguistic diversity.
– digital Literacy: enabling students to conduct research on the web or in physical space, to set strategies for research, to locate, manage and evaluate data.
– Communication: encouraging students to use the English language in a functional and not in a mechanic/scholastic way.
– Collaboration: promoting team work and collaborative carrying out
– Creativity and Innovation: urging students to explore their imagination and creative minds.
– Autonomous Learning: teaching learners to design own pathway to process material and to decide upon which activities to perform in order to achieve the expected outcomes
At the same time, the project will focus on and will be organized around “European” axes, adopting a European perspective in the approaches of the various subject areas. On the one hand, it will focus on specific subjects demonstrating how many dimensions of our everyday lives are deeply penetrated by the wider “European” developments of the past. On the other hand, it seeks to show that the sense of belonging in Europe, is not something accomplished and unchanged; on the contrary, it is something that should be elaborated, transformed, widened, discussed. In this direction, the project aims to the experiential and energetic involvement of our students in issues of European history and geography, civil rights, arts, literature and science, so that they will understand the various aspects for the European Identity and empower the sense of being INCLUDED to it. The focus will be on subjects that exceed the national curricula and have wider interest, at a European level.
The IOs and resources produced will be put into practice and used by the participating schools. The users (students and educators) will be able to choose scenarios and decide which activities and/or objects to use and how to do so, based on the characteristics of their learners and the educational needs they want to meet. In the open digital platform digital file resource folders will be uploaded and categorized, organized and maintained using a variety of metadata in order to facilitate its search and use. The platform will be also equipped with the proper tools for the evaluation of the material, not so much in terms of content, but mostly in terms of its structure.
