Project Summary

The WHO (2019) reports that Europe has an increasing need for health workers. The education of health workers, particularly nurses, includes a substantial amount of practical training (EU 2013:151), which is an increasing challenge on the access to facilities, cost and quality of training. The aim of this project is to exploit 360° video consumer technology and develop an innovative learning methodology where immersive 360° video and interactivity are combined into engaging simulation training. The media industry has invested time and money in testing 360° video in broadcast and classic storytelling, without success. However, the features of 360° video may potentially be of better value in education (Solheim 2018). The project will thus form the basis for new business opportunities of companies that develop services, products and technologies specifically related to learning.A main output of the project will be an innovative simulation training methodology that blends immersive 360° video and engaging interactivity. Further, the objective is to develop a set of digital tools and resources for production of simulation training RLOs, which apply the new learning methodology.360° video technology applied appropriately to learning will contribute to meeting the requirements for high-level qualifications and enhance practical training among health workers in Europe at a low cost. In the long term, this might change practices in European Health Education. The transferability to other fields will contribute to solve European challenges on skills training in general. As a long-term outcome this may change the role of 360° video technologies at education institutions and improve the business opportunities of companies that develop services, products and technologies related to learning.
