Project Summary
The title of our project and strategic partnership is ‘IT2Share’.
The participating students and teachers will ‘share’ in different ways. They will meet their peers abroad and exchange knowledge about their country and their mutual learning area; IT. They will also learn how to connect and share knowledge with a completely different age-group, namely children in primary education, through and with the help of IT. This way they will cross physical borders within Europe, but also their own individual borders. We will guide these challenges so that the students will grow as individuals and as a group.
Our international orientated society and job market make international competence necessary. Intercultural competences increase the common understanding and social cohesion. The competences above won’t be acquired by studying books or computer technology. Hands-on International experiences and contacts are essential. Our main objective is; ‘promoting the acquisition of skills and competences’. By giving students of Candea College and Teknikum (and the primary schools) the opportunity to experience International contact, both ‘virtual’ and ‘live’. The students will graduate with an international experience that might help them on their way to become a future European citizen.
By establishing an international partnership between Teknikum in Växjö, Sweden and Candea College in Duiven, the Netherlands, a rich variety of possibilities for students and teachers will be created to increase opportunities to gain international (professional) knowledge. A partnership will also strengthen the European dimensions within the schools. The schools will be able to build on the school’s capacity for cross border cooperation and the ability to face new challenges.
Our objectives one by one;
• Improving (study) skills and competences
In the perspective of educational innovations, students will not only need to develop knowledge, but will also need to develop skills. International cooperation between schools will stimulate the integration of skills that have been taught to students in Duiven and Växjö in different subjects throughout the student’s school career. From an institutional viewpoint, the project serves to create a strategic partnership between both schools in which expertise of teachers from both schools can be joined to improve both educational and pedagogical competency within both schools.
• European awareness.
In the perspective of the European Union we want to create an sense of shared identity as Europeans.
• Cultural awareness.
Internationalization will stimulate insight in and respect for the other culture as well as for their own culture. Students learn to recognize differences and common grounds.
• Increasing communicative skills.
Internationalization provides an opportunity for students to put their knowledge of foreign languages, English in this case, into functional use.
• Use of IT
International communication is an excellent starting-point for the use of modern communication technologies like Internet and video-conferencing.
• Increasing social skills
During the exchange students will be placed in a cultural and social environment that is unknown to them. By doing so they will gain valuable experience in adapting quickly and easily to new social and cultural environments, a skill which will serve them well later in life.
The exchange part of the project has a total of 16 participants including students and teachers. The students will be between 15-18 years old. This group will include participants from different backgrounds in terms of culture, educational levels, social skills and financial resources. We will try and let these differences not become an obstacle when joining this project.
During the project, the students and teachers will be communicating in English both virtual and live. The exchange, one week in Sweden and one week in the Netherlands is the highlight in the project. All of our activities will be evolved around increasing the (educational) skills of our students and also of our teachers and schools. We will encourage students improve their communicative skills, presentation skills, social skills and skills related tot heir main subject trough the classes and activities our schools and the students will organize.
The expected result for the schools is that they create a strong partnership in which they strengthen their European dimension and build on their capacity for cross border cooperation as well as being able to cope with new challenges.
For the students of both schools we hope that they will grow as European citizens and individuals, because they have crossed both European and individual borders by acquiring new skills and expanding their existing ones.
Hopefully we will meet all of our objectives and can make this a project that will continue for more years to come so that we can keep guiding young people on their way to becoming Europe’s future citizens
