Project Summary

In the context of the ongoing refugee and migrant crisis in Europe and the risk of marginalization of the newly arrived refugees and migrants, 5 organizations from Bulgaria, Italy, Greece, Austria and Turkey developed the Erasmus+ KA2 project “It’s All About Solidarity”. The project will focus on the social inclusion, integration and empowerment of young refugees and migrants. The main aims of this project are to contribute to the social inclusion, integration and empowerment of young refugees and migrants in the participating countries and beyond, as well as to build the capacity of the participating organizations and other civil society organizations in the field of social inclusion, integration and empowerment of young refugees and migrants. It has the objective to contribute to the integration and social inclusion of young refugees, migrants and other marginalized young people, to promote fundamental European values, such as tolerance, solidarity, understanding of diversity, and, hence, to combat discrimination, racism and xenophobia.
These aims will be reached through the planned activities which are:
-A 1-day kick-off meeting between the representatives of the partner countries, which will take place in Bulgaria in September 2019 and will provide a space for coordination and tasks assignment, clarification of practical and organizational issues. The agenda of the upcoming international training will be discussed and agreed upon.
-A 5-days international training for youth workers based on the expertise of each partner and their experience in working with young refugees and migrants will take place in Bulgaria in November 2019 and will involve 5 youth workers per partner country. The main topic of the training will be focusing on good practices and methodologies related to non-formal education, storytelling, creating powerful messages and audiovisual products for empowering young refugees and migrants through showcasing positive examples of integration. The training will also include methodologies for involving celebrities (decision-makers, artists, journalists, influential people in each country) for advocacy, as well as techniques for storytelling online (through videos) and live (Living Library methodology).

Between January and April the organizations will:
-Create two types of short videos (5 videos per organization): young refugees and migrants sharing their successful stories of integration in the local communities in the partner countries; celebrities (opinion leaders, influencers, policy makers, artists, etc.) from partner countries sharing their positive messages related to the integration of refugees and migrants. The videos will be widely disseminated and promoted.
-Organize a Living Library events in each partner country (1-day local event) – giving the floor to refugees and migrants who have positive stories to share, as well as to youth workers who work in this field.

– A mid-term meeting (1-day meeting taking place in Greece) will be organized in February 2020 for the purpose of sharing the progress on the implementation of the local activities, share what challenges they have, if any, receive feedback and brainstorm on how to involve in an efficient and meaningful way the disadvantaged young people from migrant background in the activities.
– A final conference in Italy in May 2020 (2 days) during which representatives of all partners will gather, in order to present and discuss the results of the project, to plan future steps and follow-up activities.
Through this project the partners from 5 European countries will not only share good practices and experience, building their capacity, as well as the capacities of youth workers who work with young refugees and migrants, but will also encourage the participation of young refugees and migrants in society, will inspire them to make a change and to overcome challenges, will promote constructive dialogue, tolerance and acceptance among the local communities, will contribute to the social integration of refugees, migrants and other marginalized groups as a long-term benefit from the project.
