This project will involve five primary schools from five different European countries:- Ireland, Italy, Spain, Finland and Slovenia. During this two year project we want to promote the development of the key competences of the students in the promotion of health, well being and emotional education, whilst considering the needs of all pupils including students with Special Educational Needs and from multi-cultural backgrounds. All teachers and leaders of education who are involved in this project are highly motivated by their desire to improve the processes of training, evaluation and increasing performance and satisfaction of students and families. The mobility of professionals in teaching is a key factor to implement learning, increase European awareness, share ideas and develop 21st century projects.With the well being of pupils and staff at the heart of the project, this would enable schools to share best practice and to be creative and innovative in approaches to support all partners in education in a society that places huge demands on everyone.
Chidlren and staff will work together on sub-projects to accumulate a holistic bank of skills and methodoligies to strenghten their individual wellbeing and that of community and internation inclusion fortifying wellbeng.
These subtopics will include;
Getting to know us – Children will get to know each other early on in the project through pesonal profiles and exchange of About Me brochures.
Healthy Habits and Practices – They will develop their connections and respect of diversity among each other, through sharing experinced and ideas in healthy eating and healthy hobbies/ practices. Children will create, complete and compile finding of surveys. These will be done at local level in younger classes and through online shared documents in older classes.
Together We Are Stronger – Children will use visual art to communicate and develop understanding, emotions and reactions in relation to themselves and others – The children participate in creating a joint piece of art or music and will share slide shows and photographs, to show their experiences. These will be compiled by staff and children depending on their skills, the dances will dance, the musicians play, and the technicians record. The literacy strong will create and narrate text.
Keeping in Touch with me -Mindfulness – Children will use the medium of drama to demonstrate emotions and responses to social interactions. There will be a wide variety of systems of production (puppets, shadow, mime, actor dominated etc.)
Be Active, Be Mindful and conpetent in a digital world – Personal and shared insights into mindful physical activities, using stuctured lessons on digital tools, slide show presentations and video editing, this will enable all children to learn particular skills in digital tools. Lessons can be given by teachers of pupils with particular strengths that would have been identified in earlier sub-projects.
Ground and Grounding – using nature and various enviroments as stimulous to meditate. The children and staff will develop awareness to the beauties that surround them and the importance protecting such beauties. They will learn meditation techniques reflecting on their enviromnets, givign them tools to repond to their mental health needs no matter where they are in life.
Through the undertaking of this project we will strive to:-
* train students, teaching staff and families for the election of behaviours that favour their well being and health through the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to socio-emotional competencies, nutrition and physical activity.
*develop different models of leadership and teaching and learning to support the teachers, pupils and families.
*develop new comprehensive and pedagogical frameworks for early childhood and primary education to enhance the detection of pupils with special educational needs and those at risk of emotional and physical issues.
*expand and develop the use of ICT as a tool for learning
*Develop a multi-disciplinary project
*Bring the European Cultural Heritage closer to children, raise awareness about history, music, art, food, common values and to reinforce a sense of belonging to Europe
*Fight against discrimination and segregation of marginalised communities, emigrants, refugees and favour attention to diversity and acceptance
This project shall have a meaningful impact on our school community because it will bring an international perspective and influence to our schools perspective and inspire teachers to consider and adopt new methodologies and approaches to teaching and learning. From the students perspective, they will be provided with a superb opportunity to experience different European approaches to health and well being and social inclusion in society. These issues which will make a significant impact on their educational experience.
