Project Summary

“In the EU, 7 millions of young people are not in employment, education and training. In 2015, 12% of young people were NEETs, with the highest rate reached in 2013 at 13%. 48% of them have reached up to a certain level in upper secondary education and 43% to one a certain point in lower secondary education” (Georgios Koulouris, International Relations Analyst based in Athens and writing a thesis for Sustainable Development MSc on poverty in the European Union.).

From this perspective, Le Monde des Possibles works on these principles of early school leavers remobilization and socio-economic inclusion for nearly three years now. Through digital arts skills and popular education practices, we’ve welcomed and trained more than 70 early school leavers with convincing results.

Based on this experience and the specific expertise of our staff, we think these practices must continue to be expanded in order to develop a consistent methodology at an international level, based on digital art skills and jobs. This high-tech growing sector is already identified as professions of the future. Tim Cook, Apple CEO, talks about an “intersection of liberal arts and technology [that] can amplify learning and creativity” (“Education, coding skills key to future employment and strong US says Apple CEO Tim Cook” ).

Young people who are not engaged in education employment or training is a global problem which concerns the future of Europe. We therefore think it important to act in a more horizontal manner by sharing our practices and expertises in order to develop innovating learning processes and anticipate school drop-out (or fight against its psychosocial and economic consequences).

In practice, the project will consist of:
– Combining skills and good practices of each partner (Le Monde des Possibles, Kids & Co and Active Youth) and identify NEET’s needs (with them)
– From these identified needs, creating learning devices implementing innovative didactic materials (trough digital arts skills)
– Testing these devices with the NEETs and seek views from stakeholders
– Holding a media event (festival, workshops) created by the NEET for themselves. As they set up the event, they will apply new learning practices.
– Reviewing the results with the participants
– Producing a methodological guide intended for professionnals
