Project Summary
The implementation of the Stayin Alive project was fully in line with the strategic development plan of our school and the European partner school development plan. Both schools emphasized the combination of theory and practice, the connection of school with practical life. Schools need to improve as well as expand the competences of both pupils and teachers. They were looking for new methods, examples of good practice and materials for improving and modernizing teaching. The project made it possible to link the training of pupils with practice and to increase the quality of teaching. The project involved schools in European cooperation in the medical field. The project helped establish new contacts withforeign partners and create the basis for a long-term partnership that has enabled the necessary exchange of experience, contact with the latest trends and linking teaching with European practice.
The aim of the project was:
1) to improve the quality and efficiency of pupils’ education and training
2) to contribute to the development of the pupils ‘and teachers’ expertise, skills and competences and to their personal development
3) to allow pupils valuable foreign experience, to develop human capital, to reconcile the abilities of school graduates with employers’ requirements
4) to increase the employability of graduates in the labor market and contribute to labor mobility
5) to support vocational training for teachers
6) to enable the transfer of experience and good practice examples
7) to promote humane and empathetic people active in health care
8) to start cooperation with foreign partners in the field of health education, to gain new experience and to encourage further improvement of the quality of teaching at school and to strengthen its reputation
The project had in total 10 activities that have taken place evenly in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. There were 8 activities planned for pupils, 2 activities are planned for teachers.
1) In the period October 2018, February 2019, May 2019 and September 2019, short-term exchange stays of 5 days and it always took place at the same time in both republics. 16 pupils of the second year and 16 pupils of the 3rd year of the Medical Assistant attended by an equal number the Secondary Health School in Skalice and the Secondary School of Industrial, Hotel and Healthcare Uherske Hradiste. The content of the activity was the participation of pupils in the direct teaching of selected specialized medical subjects together with their peers, participation in practical lessons of the social partner, participation in leisure activities, familiarization with the school environment, participation in local project activities and accompanying events for the purpose of acquainting with history, culture and the customs of the royal towns of Uherské Hradiště and Skalica and their surroundings.
2) In June 2019, 7 teachers of specialized medical subjects attended a short-term joint training course lasting 3 days. Teaching took place at the Faculty Hospital with Polyclinic in Skalice and in Piestany. The content of the training was 1. Providing health care in the field of social services, care for clients with mobility disorders, nursing and health care for the elderly, 2. Emergency medicine in the context of rescue health service, preparation of health professionals for dealing with sudden events, 3. Providing health spa care, spa treatment and treatment methods, therapeutic programs.
In October 2019, 7 teachers of specialist medical subjects attended a short-term joint training with a duration of 3 days. The lessons took place in the premises of the hospital in Uherské Hradiště and in Spa Luhačovice. The content of the training was 1. First aid – restoring or stabilizing basic life functions at the scene of the event, 2. Child care (pupils of special kindergartens and primary schools) 3. Providing health care in the sphere of balneology – musculoskeletal disorders, nervous diseases, diseases of the metabolic and thyroid gland disorders, circulatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system, diseases of the nervous system, diseases of the musculoskeletal system, devices, etc.
The result of the project is supported 32 pupils and 16 teachers who have gained experience in foreign country, new knowledge, skills and competences in professional, personal and intercultural areas. The impact of internships on participants was materially captured through the Europass Mobility Certificate of Vocational Training. We disseminated the results freely to promote mobility and international cooperation. The project also contributed to popularizing vocational education, increasing interest in professional health education and increasing the prestige of both schools. Examples of good practice were included in school education programs and thematic plans of specialist medical subjects.
