Project Summary

The UNESCO list of intangible culture heritage depicts the importance of preserving and spreading traditions, old handicrafts and different forms of culture of all parts of the world. Many cultural forms mentioned on the list are currently endangered by global as well as local developments and thus need effective protection and conservation measures. Our project is going to contribute to all those requirements to a special extent. Young people of all the participating countries will discover intangible cultural heritage, try it out and produce films for other youth. Thus not only special educational and explanatory films are made, but at the same time short instruction and an overview of school or individual work on the respective topic are presented.
Students are going to deal with the medium film and in the course of time they will organize their own film festival in Berlin. Doing so they not only try out different traditions and cultural heritage, but will also improve their competence in the medium film.
With the help of instruction they will work on evaluation of such projects and report on the progress.
The festival will be advertised by posters which are designed by the students themselves. Furthermore, the best film in different categories as well as the best actors and directors will be selected by a jury consisting of parents, freelance artists, students and sponsors. In addition awards will be introduced. According to genuine film festivals there will be a trophy made by students.
The project will take over the experience of previous Ersamus- projects and link them to the new goals, which analog and digital means are used for.
Students will be provided with haptic experience by experimenting with intangible cultural assets and they will contribute to their preservation and spread.
By means of long- term stays the students not only enhance their education and everyday life, but also reflect upon their own culture, own values, own educational system and view it in a new light. They thus increase their research- and study- competence regarding further, possibly international, education.
