Project Summary
The partnership « NIOS Nature is our strength » has been linking, from 2015 until 2018,three schools : Collège André Malraux in Granville (France), the Gimnazjum im. Janusza Korczaka in Chojna (Poland) and Muusap Atuarfia School in the village of Saattut – Uummannaq in Greenland. Keeping in mind the teaching of sustainable development, this partnership aimed at a collective thinking process on how necessary it was to give more importance to Nature, both in our teaching as well as in our daily lives, in order to grasp and understand better what was to preserve and/or develop in terms of energy and the balances to strike. Students and teachers have worked on numerous intermediary tasks (concerning science and humanities departments). They have met European or related European cultures-they have met diversity, and for a lot of them, have (re) discovered their immediate surroundings-natural and professional, through rich meetings and exchanges. Most activities can be seen on this common website : https://nioserasmus.wordpress.com . Year two saw the making of multilingual brochures ‘Where we live and sustainable development’ and at the end of year three, the final one, a song has been composed by the students, a four- language anthem to nature’s strengths…This song and ode is the real log book of this program and its sharing on the web is meant to participate in promoting positive actions related to the project themes. Some results are beyond expectations, so the seed can continue to germinate.
With nine international meetings over three years, in the end 104 teenagers and 38 adults have met their peers from foreign communities. Almost 400 students and 80 education providers have been involved in the different activities. Far beyond school, more than 110 European and Greenlandic families – through travelling or hosting – have done the amazing experience of intercultural exchanges and the links with the local actors of the three partner countries have grown with new collaborations.
To forge a strong connection between today’s young people, their teaching personnel and their peers as well as the biosphere in order to build a better tomorrow, such was our goal. Cell phones or other screens, our generation of teenagers is probably not ready to cut its digital cord . Yet, with a wealth of new experiences, together, with their feet in the sand, snow or earth, they will have sung and danced on their tune «Take good care and respect the world, ‘cause it always gives you strength ».
