Project Summary

SUMMARY
Based on considerations of how students can acquire the highest possible level of foreign language competence during their training at a vocational school and how this can be applied in professional life or during their lifelong learning, and how comparative linguistics can be used in language teaching, we decided to enrol for an Erasmus+ project in autumn 2019. We hope to gain new insights and to prepare young people with the highest possible level of language competence for the world of work at the international level.
After contacting potential interested parties through “eTwinning” and the “School Education Gateway” an the consortium representative od the Bildugnsdirektion NÖ three partner schools agreed to participate in our project. The project is scheduled as follows:
As a first step, an additional French and Spanish lesson for students from our school participating in the project will be devoted to the development of language switching, considering the “seven sieves” of EuroCom and comparative linguistics in general.
A meeting of the responsible teachers of the partner schools will take place at our school in autumn 2020 to discuss details regarding the programme and mobility.
Through eTwinning, participants from the partner schools will get to know each other and practice international business behaviour once a month during lessons. The Business Education staff of our school have agreed to support the project.
The students participating in the project (25 at the ages of 17 and 18) will travel to Italy in April 2021 and will have the opportunity to receive a basic course in Italian in order to learn a third Romance language. In autumn 2021, the Spanish and French speaking students will go to France while those studying Czech (14 at the age of 16/17) will go to Prague and apply their language switching experience there. The mobilities should provide the local teachers with an insight into foreign language teaching concepts used by other nations. Especially the examination of the textbooks of the respective partner schools is of great importance for us.
During their visits to our school, the students of our partner schools should receive German lessons at different levels (A1, A2, B1) in order to deepen and build up their foreign language skills.
The final event planned for June 2022 will focus on the presentation of our project to a broad public and thus multiply the ideas. A publication of the documentation of our project is also planned.
The project is an important contribution to the understanding of the European Union. It will help familiarise young people with the values of the Union, namely, to be united in the diversity of languages and cultures and to share and experience the beauty of this diversity. Our aim is to contribute to internationalism and to accompany and support open-minded, unprejudiced young people on their way to this. Within the framework of the mobility, they should not only visit the cultural heritage of the regions and experience European history on site, but also deal with the economic characteristics. The project should also encourage the participating students to exchange experiences and views.
The organisation of all mobilities is the responsibility of the respective schools and should, in the sense of inclusion, offer all interested people the opportunity to participate in the project.
