Project Summary

As teachers we do all meet pupils with delayed speech and language development. We also notice that our students’ don´t read as much as before. It´s a challenge to motivate and inspire them. We need to find new ways of teaching to catch their interest. The reading interest is not as big as it used to be but it is vital to be able to read to succeed in school and in life. All schools have experienced that the results regarding reading and literacy is deteriorating. Four of the participant countries has been working together in a prior project: T.A.L.E. (England, France, Romania and Sweden) In that project we focused on art and traditional stories. We found out that the theme and the interaction between our countries motivated our students, especially the ones that used to be the less motivated. We wanted to use our learnings more and to develope the project by inviting new partners that had heard of the T.A.L.E project and wanted to try new ways of learning. We are six schools from different parts of Europe: Bulgaria, England, France, Italy, Romania and Sweden.The name of this project is “Learning through All Senses Together” shortened to the working name L.A.S.T. We wanted to try new methods in our teaching by learning from our colleagues in workshops, cultural activities and in school visits. In our prior project we did focus on art and found it rewarding. Now we wanted to try several parts of creative learning: litterature, art, theater, dance including the Bulgarian pedagogy Suggestopedia. All teachers wanted to see the teaching and to be able to interact with the pupils in real life. It was very rewarding to get the chance to visit different schools and to experience similarities and sometimes differences to learn from.We have chosen different tasks in different countries due to the profile of the school and the cultural supply in the immediate area. The main target was to improve our students reading skills by using different ways of teaching. We used these methods in the workshops presented in each country during our learning, teaching and training activities. The students and teachers did bring the tasks and inspiration back to their own school to implement the work. By using E-twinning, Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, Skype, mail, websites we were able to present our work both to partners involved in the project and to others. Our students are used to quick feedback and in this project we were able to give that by using ICT. We did in our prior project find out that when our pupils interacted they got motivated, interested to learn more about the other countries in Europe and the people living in them. In this project we wanted to give our students the chance to meet students from other countries both in real life and through the internet. Some of the countries had planned to bring students in their school visits but due to Covid this was cancelled, but they did meet through the internet. We learned that meeting new friends gives self-confidence, improving both their English and their native language. The pupils also looked at themselves as part of Europe through this project. To assess the learning of our pupils we used a survey to see how much they know about the other countries, if they have friends in the different countries and if they know some words in some of the languages. The result showed that in the evaluation of the beginning of the project the pupils that had been a part in the first project knew much about the ”old” partner countries but nothing about Bulgaria and Italy. In the last evaluation there was a big improvement. We did also assess the reading skills of our target group before and after the project along with regular observations of our pupils in school. Even though some schools have been closed sometime during the project all schools show an improved reading ability. All schools except France schools have used the National tests to make the evaluation, France used Pirls. It was important that all schools used their ordinary evaluation to be able to compare the targetgroup with the other years of evaluation. As our project did proceed several schools started to give time each day for reading. All teachers also evaluated the learning of our pupils after each workshop.The partners had divided the responsibility of the tasks between each other and all countries were responsible for the planning and implementation of workshops connected to the visit in their school. This was also vital for making sure that the high quality of the mobilities would be maintained throughout the whole project. All partners got a mascot that was a part of the whole project both in the local school and abroad. This documentation will be put together to an E-book and will also be printed to a paper copy in a real bookshop. These books and other documentation through E-twinning, websites, media and other ways to communicate will be used to spread our work to other schools, the community and nationally.
