Project Summary
The Project is an opportunity for the partner universities to maintain and deepen their previous successful cooperation, unfolded within the framework of LLP Erasmus programme: study mobilities and two intensive programmes, operational during 2009 and 2014, and the Erasmus+ K2 strategic partnership «Systèmes juridiques et droit des entreprises dans l’UE: traduire et interpréter dans la diversité», coordinated by University of South-Bohemia in České Budějovice and taking place between 1 September 2015 and 1 September 2018.
The new Project, seen as a new stage of the cooperation between partner universities, will focus on the profession of translator/interpreter demanding cross-cutting skills such as linguistic and cross-cultural knowledge, coping in a multicultural environment, applying legislative norms, using software tools. The Project will help promote the profession of translator/interpreter by integrating skills from different domains – linguistics, law, IT, economics, company management , and by exchanging good practices in cooperation with the companies hosting students’ internships. The novelty of the Project consists of its focus on the small languages.
The project of the Strategic Partnership “Legal Systems and Evolution of the Profession: translate and interpret in the diversity” (hereinafter “the Project”) is aligned with the general objectives of modernizing higher education systems in European countries, as they were formulated in the EU modernization agenda for higher education.
The Project aims are:
– improving quality and relevance of higher education in the partner countries;
– reinforcing multilingualism and multi-disciplinarity in higher education;
– promoting international cooperation between higher education institutions;
– facilitating the development of innovative practices in higher education and their transfer by creating open teaching resources;
– improving student employability by reinforcing their cross-cultural skills;
– exchanging good practices in training, in connection with the location of the study internships.
Another fundamental aspect of the consortium, when defining the Project, is the professional purpose – acquiring essential know-how in a multinational and multilingual environment through Intensive Programme, intellectual outputs, dissemination events.
The participants of the Project are 7 universities: Latvia (Ventspils Augstskola), Czech Republik (JIHOCESKA UNIVERZITA V CESKYCH BUDEJOVICICH), France (Universite Bretagne-Sud), Spain (Universidad de Vigo), Portugal (Instituto Superior Contabilidade Administração Porto), Romania (UNIVERSITATEA TEHNICA DE CONSTRUCTII BUCURESTI), Slovakia (UNIVERSITATEA TEHNICA DE CONSTRUCTII BUCURESTI).
The methodological and pedagogical approaches delivering transversal competences were implemented through participating of specialists representing different fields (translation, entrepreneurship, law). Workshops of writing articles and role plays encouraged participants to develop their creativity. All these actions were carried out in multilingual and multinational teams.
The intellectual output of the Project is useful for universities with programs of translation studies, and the analysis of the experience given by the dissemination event – an international conference – encourages to apply for long-term projects. The strategic partnership has been enlarged with the network of participating establishments.
