Project Summary

This three-year Erasmus+ Project, entitled “European Colour Pencils. Draw me A Europe.” was born following the terrorist attacks of January 2015 and the various European crises that challenge European identity and construction. The question then was: how to promote the sense of belonging of our students to our European community, by defending its values and committing to it? Our objectives were threefold : 1) Develop a diversity education to combat identity withdrawal and prejudice through the development of a game of trails at the level of each partner country to share its local and national culture. 2) Share and live out common values of democracy, tolerance and respect. Each country has chosen a value and defended it with the other partner countries by carrying out different activities: writing a Dictionary of European values lovers, making videos on the fight against discrimination, the organization of three colloquia (in France on equality, in Italy on freedom and in Portugal on tolerance). 3) Engage in a collaborative project to strengthen the sense of European belonging by establishing a European Council of High School Students and by getting involved in associative actions (citizen engagement), by recounting the day of an eco-responsible high school student (environmental engagement), by designing a virtual museum (cultural engagement). In addition, each country contributed to the final realization of trees of life, symbols of the project. The implementation of this project was based on regular and innovative exchanges between the countries involved (creation of a website «europens.fr», use of digital applications). Collaboration with various stakeholders (municipalities, museums, art schools, personalities) has helped open the school to the world. The expected results were for the pupils, teachers and territories in which the partner schools were located. Pupils aged 15 to 18 years of age from five schools (Cyprus, Estonia, France, Italy, Portugal) with a wide range of social, ethnic and cultural diversity are trained in different ways (general, technological and vocational). Some, who had difficulty with school, often lacked motivation, curiosity and interest in the school. All have benefited from a rich programme which has enabled them to live their European identity better (knowledge, exchange and sociability, renewed motivation, desire for mobility) by participating in various activities. These contacts have fostered cultural bridges between European regions (Northern Europe, Mediterranean Europe, Western Europe), and have made it possible to move away from a sense of identity and to improve openness to each other. This project has contributed to the existence of a Europe that reinforces its humanistic values, a Europe in which our young students have a role to play, a Europe that they have begun to draw….
