Project Summary
Context/background of project:
Tourism, Inoovation and Sustainability is an Erasmus KA2 project prepared by IISS Galilei and 5 partners:
– IES el Astillero – Spain
– Ortakoy Zubeyde Hanim Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi – Turkey
– 56 SU “Prof. Konstantin Irechek”- Bulgaria
– SOLSKI CENTER SLOVENJ GRADEC – Slovenia
– OGEC Lycée Privé Professionnel Saint Louis – France
The schools involved have different profiles and are located in countries with different cultural heritages. This enriches the opportunities for cultural exchange between the participants.
Starting from the focus on sustainability, we thought of involving students, with the strong use of innovative tools, on the theme of tourism.
In fact, all schools are located in areas rich in tourist and naturalistic attractions.
Objectives of your project:
The objectives of the project are various:
– Introduce students to the tourist, cultural and natural heritage of their areas of origin in order to guide their peers from other countries during mobility activities.
– Make students aware and bring them closer to sustainability issues with particular reference to the tourism sector.
– Make students understand the potential of technology and innovation in order to increase tourism promotion activities in the world of Internet and globalization:
– Make students understand that even in a world that moves towards globalization it is possible to respect and safeguard the territory, traditions and peoples.
We apply for this Erasmus KA2 project because we want our students to strengthen their academic level, and improve their intercultural and 21st century skills: communication in English, collaboration (cross-border), creativity, critical thinking (the facts and information they are introduced to).
The focus will be on our students becoming aware and conscious of their common cultural heritage through the activities they will meet and become active participants in. The awareness of their touristic and cultural heritage will be the starting step for the activities which will scaffold their intercultural skills and prepare them for their common future as European citizens. Thus, our students will be conscious about the past and the present communities in Europe and aware of the present changes in life.
Number and profile of participants:
The target group of the project will be 120 students (twenty per country) aged 16-19 years old.
The objectives are for the students to become aware and conscious of their touristic and cultural heritage working with activities oriented to virtual tour realization, to become familiar with their European citizenship, to develop oral and written English skills, to teach and learn in an international context in order to prepare the students for an international job market.
Description of activities:
The activities will be structured as follows:
The tasks of the different groups will be detailed and the operational tools presented during a first teachers’ meeting.
When back home, teachers will start work in their own countries.
Before every departure the groups will be prepared, in particular the host country group will have to direct and manage the work during the mobility.
After a study of the places and an in-depth study on sustainability, the students, supported by teachers, will go on excursions where they will collect videos, images, 360-degree shots and drone footage. When back home students supported by collaborative online tools, will work on video editing, the creation of information sheets and the creation of virtual tours to be disseminated on web platforms.
Methodology to be used in carrying out the project:
The use of technologies will be a common thread of all the project activities.
Presenting and preparing the different activities will be done by using cooperative learning, flipped learning and problem solving learning.
Meeting other European students face-to-face, staying at each other’s home during the mobilities will boost their self-confidence, vitality, make them prepared, engaged and motivated for further education and strengthen their personal skills and ability to create relationships. This will also provide our students with an opportunity to discover similarities and differences in a common cultural heritage.
Short description of the results and impact envisaged and finally the potential longer term benefits:
Our project will allow our students to be open to the world and ready to be part of an international community and for the benefits and responsibilities that this entails. Working in an international context using English as a common foreign language with a topic to make our students aware of their common cultural heritage will scaffold their intercultural skills and prepare them for their future as active, environmentally friendly European citizens ready to the challenges of technology.
