Project Summary

Our highschool is specialised in the fields of applied art and graphic communication. When the Czech highschool, Stredni Odborna Skola Multimedialnich Studii from Podebrady got in touch with us, looking for some cooperation, we rapidly expected to work together. This Czech highschool is indeed specialised in multimedia, web and 3D trainings.
The interest of our cooperation, its added value, is to be found in the fact that our trainings are both pretty similar in their common language of graphic design and they also complement one another because they deal with different techniques and media.

The project we called « Let’s MapChat », for which we apply, is following a virtual digital meeting that was initiated between some students from two of our respective classes, a few months ago. The e-Twinning platform with its Twin Space is the meeting point where our students share and work together to design the virtual maps of their respective cities.

18 students, from each vocational highschool, will take part in this project, guided by some teachers of their professional and technological subjects and their English teachers. They will be in their 3rd year, aged 17 to 19. One of the purposes for both schools to get involved in such a project is to encourage the mobility of people, students, teachers and staff. Mobility is not an end in itself, it is actually a necessary tool to achieve our goals.

Our project aims first at enriching students, personally and collectively, through some cooperation between young EU citizens dealing with questions targeting their future. Their reflexion and different activities on environmental concerns beyond the borders of their respective schools, towns and countries, will help them develop some sense of belonging to this mutual adventure. They will design some awareness campaign, for which they will suggest mediation and on which they will communicate. Exhibitions of their work will also be planned. These results will show their ability to appropriate the stakes of such questions on a European scale.
The second objective of this project lies in the complementarity of our respective trainings and aims at making our students acquire skills, know-how and new professional techniques. Learning sessions and collaborative workshops will be planned during our cross-border exchanges. The participants will produce the details of their campaign and the interactive maps that will be published on a website they will create. These maps will illustrate, visually and graphically, some locations that are specific to both cities, in connection with the subject we have chosen.

As part of the development of language skills, the English language will be the useful and necessary one to communicate all along the project. In the medium and long run the organization of these professional trainings targets the opportunities offered by our schools for students to pursue their studies abroad. The idea is to develop some cooperation between European schools on training schemes based on the complementarity of their curriculums, teaching and didactic practices. As far as training as a whole is concerned our ambition is to find and implement the ways and means to increase the opportunities of studies abroad for students, and of students, staff and teachers’ mobility. We consider this to be a major concern for the vitality of the European project.
