Project Summary
Our project is called liT2.0. Today, our students are surrounded by digital tools such as computers, phones, tablets … With the advancement of technology, they find it increasingly difficult to take an interest in reading, let alone handling paper format.
For us, as teachers, literature is an indisputable testimony of history. It is thanks to literature that we can understand both the evolution of the world and current events . Literature is a mark of the past and for many of our students, it remains in the past.
A team of mainly four teachers will supervise the project: a teacher of French literature and a teacher of Castilian language for the Spanish school. A teacher of Spanish as well as a teacher of history-geography for the French school. We will work primarily with first-class students and will be travelling with 15 of them. An LTTA will take place in Paris and another one in Barcelona.
In our classes, many students come from the Maghreb, from French-speaking countries or from the Spanish-speaking world. We would therefore like to begin our project by taking the origins of our students as a starting point, by focussing on them and on the emblematic authors of their respective countries. In this way we’ ll be able to work on both the history of their country and on the imprint this literature has had on Europe and the rest of the world.
As teachers, we also want to provide our students with key authors of the French and the Spanish speaking world because we consider that this literature offers an important tool for a better understanding of today’s Europe.
The work that we propose in this project enables students to get more directly involved with these authors and to even invite their relatives to participate in the project.
Our aim is for the French school to work with the literature of the Spanish-speaking world and that the Spanish school can do the same with the French world literature. We would like to share our interpretation of literature with our partner school and to exchange our vision of the different authors and their history. We hope that this might bring about a new vision of the authors and their work.
During the year, we will dedicate one hour a week to several authors and several texts around these authors. We will study their history, time, characteristics and the consequences for the world of today. To ensure the smooth running of the project, we will have videoconferences with our partners and students. We’ll also create a WhatsApp group for the teaching team and we’ll hold monthly Skype meetings. In case any other organisation wants to learn more about our project, a website, a Facebook profile and a Twitter and Instagram account will also be made available.
During our meetings, each school undertakes to organise literary courses in Paris and Barcelona to discover authors, places of residence, places of writing, places that might have influenced their works or their past. We also want to discover manuscripts, meet with translators and interpreters and learn about their vision of history.
In addition, each school will create an exhibition staging the life of the authors and the different eras studied.
After a year into the project, where we’ll have studied different texts and authors, as well as have had an exchange among the participating schools, we plan to make video capsules. In these video capsules students will be able to show their vision of an author by staging his life and the great historical moments of his time with the aim of understanding their influence on the world today.
This process will also allow us to work with tools that are often well mastered by students and that teachers must also manage to handle (ICT). This is one of the skills that teachers have to acquire. Video and therefore literary capsules would be a good way to modernise the literature by combining it with modern tools. It would no longer be a footprint of the past for our students. Everyone could therefore use each other’s knowledge in different areas: geographical, historical, literary, computer …
We aspire for our students to reconnect with literature and become themselves authors of the present history. Many students are planning to study further. This project would therefore be a way for them to reconnect with literature and offer the chance to continue their studies so that literature won’t be considered a burden but an essential aspect of higher education.
