Project Summary

Modern early childhood education faces essential changes according to the needs of the multicultural society and different social groups. Development of innovative teaching resources, teachers’ professional development and parental involvement are among the most important prerequisites in order to enhance the quality of the early childhood education and care. The strategic partnership “Me and My Family” aims to foster social inclusion of families and increase parental involvement in educational process by integrating samples of best practice for collaboration with families into preschool curricula. Kindergartens from four countries have united to collaboratively develop a teaching resource, to carry out support activities for educators implementing preschool curricula and to acquire new methods for collaboration with families.
The objectives of the partnership are as follows:
– development of a set of an e-book “Me and My Family” containing descriptions of events and activities;
– encouragement of parental involvement and motivation by carrying out events or activities where children and their families are involved;
– promotion of preschool teachers’ professional development and experience exchange;
– testing in educational practice the newly acquired methods, arts techniques and games;
– promotion of dissemination of the best practices among early childhood teachers.
The project is addressed for the following target groups:
– teachers working in preschools;
– children involved in preschool education;
– parents and other family members;
– children an families with fewer opportunities (cultural differences, socio-economic obstacles, health problems);
– teachers working in elementary education, special education and non-formal education.
The following results are expected from the project implementation:
– five short-time joint staff training activities;
– four workshops carried out for training participants and local teachers (music and drama, arts, handicrafts, sports);
– mobile exhibition of children’s drawings/paintings “Me and My Family”;
– virtual galleries of the photographs made by children with assistance of family members “Me and My Country”°;
– collection of video greetings “Say Hello”;
– e-book “Me and My Family” including at least twelve descriptions of events or activities implemented by partners for children and their families;
– development of eTwinning project on the same topic;
– approbation of teaching resources within the educational practice;
– activities or events involving children and their families (at least three events carried out by every partner);
– creating the project blog and a profile in some of social media;
– local result dissemination seminars for teachers and parents (50 or more participants in every country);
– a closing conference involving project participants and 50 or more local participants.
It is expected that teachers will strengthen their sense of belonging to European preschool teachers’community, implementing a common goal to enhance the quality of the early childhood education and care. Joint training activities will provide teachers with opportunities to learn about the specifics of preschool education in different EU countries, to deepen understanding of educational practice, differences and similarities in education systems ans politics.
