Project Summary
The Project “Living, learning and working in Europe aimed at students at the age between 14 and 15. A German, a Slovenian and a Spanish school took part in this project. As there is a massive youth unemployment rate in Spain and there are several students who leave school without a qualification in Germany and Slovenia,, we wanted to stop that process. We wanted to prepare students with a low motivation or fewer skills for the European job market. We learned about the German, Slovenian and Spanish education systems and their differences. We created job profiles for jobs typical for all three partner countries including job requirements and qualifications. The students wrote applications in English which were evaluated by human resource managers of partner companies and included recommendations for improvements. Some students had the opportunity to take part in English job interviews of partner companies carried out by their human resource managers and included feedback. All result were summarized in a Project Handbook and translated into English, Slovenian, German and Spanish. The handbook also contains examples for good CVs and job interviews as well as tips and phrases for good job interviews. They will be used at the schools for job orientation programmes and at partner companies. We have implemented a 3-day course for application training in German for ninth graders into our school curriculum which will be carried out once a year by human resource managers of a partner company. We are planning to implement the same training in English in the future.
