Project Summary
A consortium build by an NGO, a cooperative and a social company from Croatia and Portugal have engaged together in this 16 month project focusing on developing 3 IOs with the focus on ‘reflecting and debriefing’ in all the different spheres the young people are active within: youth work, education, families, peer groups and individual level. The 3 IOs are distinctly focusing on 1) individual reflection set, 2) small groups and peer reflection set and 3) big groups reflection set. Each IO stands on itself, yet they are all interlinked in order to create the opportunity and possibility to easily transfer them to the different realities the young people find themselves in. The different IOs will follow therefore also the same philosophy, a similar structure and a consistent visual (attractive) look.
The development of these IOs is based on a previous internal defined need, a need consecutively confirmed through an international questionnaire.
The different IOs aim to reach on short, medium and long term:
The creation and development of intellectual outputs that will support the facilitation of reflection activities for young people and “youth workers”.
The promotion of a culture of reflection as a key element in learning and to develop tools that support the development of that habit and culture.
The sharing of these youth work experiences into other sectors that also support young people, like teachers, parents and peers.
The creation and implementation of a training activity that will develop competences on reflection methods and use of the tools produced.
Having more efficient tools to create empowerment processes with the young people, first within our own realities, and secondly on a much wider context (regional, national and international)
Besides targeting in the first place young people (with a particular focus towards young people with fewer opportunities), this project intends to have concrete impact in all the different spheres the young people engage within, and consequently therefore also includes the stakeholders within these different spheres (e.g. youth workers, peers, educators, teachers and parents).
Each of the planned IOs consists of 3 dimensions: a reflection tool, a facilitators’ manual and a vídeo tutorial. These 3 dimension complete each IO, but can be used as well separately. The multidimensional aspect serves to increase the user-friendly aspect and aims hereby to increase the future use and impact.
All the outputs will be freely available and possible to download online in different languages. English, Croatian and Portuguese versions at start, with a prediction of future translation to happen still during and after the project.
The project lasts 16 months and contains 3 international Partner Meetings, 1 Training Course (20 participants-future multiplyers) and several Multiplyer Events (reaching minimum 90 stakeholders). The whole project is based upon the principles of non formal education (e.g. self-directed, participative, self-assessment, etc).
The consortium composition is based upon complementary competences: combining game-based learning, design-thinking methodology, digital tools and grass root fieldwork. The different involved partners have build up extensive experience in local, national and international youth work and education, hereby benefitting the mutual strengths. The IOs will be developed progressively, based upon an ongoing process of in depth testing with the variety of stakeholders involved (minimum 300 participants, with minimum 155 young people with fewer opportunities involved).
The expected impact is the creation of a regular accepted habit of reflection and (self) debriefing on individual level, small group and peer level and bigger groups. This not only within the youth work sector, but also in the wider youth field and involving a multiple dimension of involved stakeholders, e.g. youth worker, young people, educators, teachers, family.
