Project Summary

Project “History round the corner – in English” will be implemented as part of the exchange of good practices between three primary schools: Polish, Czech and Finnish. The partnership has set itself the following objectives: 1) increasing the degree of cooperation in teaching between teachers of English and teachers of other subjects in each school, 2) increasing the effectiveness of English teaching in our schools by enriching teaching tools and methods, 3) increasing the students’ ability to communicate in English, increasing their historical and cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Project activities include local activities (similar activities in each school separately, tasks to be carried out jointly on the eTwinning platform) and 3 exchanges of student groups with English teachers.
Local activities of students serve to learn their own “history round the corner”, and activities conducted with eTwinning are focused on learning about the history, culture and traditions of partner countries, while developing language competences in English.
Local activities of all of the abovementioned teachers are focused on increasing the degree of cooperation between teachers of English and of other subjects, to increase the effectiveness of English teaching.
Local activities of English teachers include organizing lectures, workshops, etc. in the eTwinning project group.
Activities during mobility serve to complement the exchange of good practices between teachers and: – to allow students to learn about “history round the corner” of the meeting hosts – through cooperation in international teams, learning through experience, self-reflection and drawing conclusions, – to develop the ability to communicate in English, – to increase social and personal competences, – to deepen the skills of using ICT in the learning process.
In total, min. 160 students and min. 20 teachers will take part in local activities, and 36 students from each school and min. 3 English teachers from each school will take part in mobilities.
We assume the achievement of the following results: 1) in each school, the degree of cooperation in teaching between teachers of English and of other subjects will increase, which will lead to: a) development of individual conversation programs in English based on “history round the corner” – of a given region and town – for students aged 12-14; these programs will include at least 25% of the conversation lessons in English for the abovementioned students, b) preparing a list of project topics related to “history round the corner” for the abovementioned students, the preparation and presentation of which (in native language) in a given subject class will be an obligatory task to be performed in teams 2) English teachers from 3 schools will exchange good practices in methods and tools (including ICT) used in English teaching, based on topics related to “history round the corner”, and then disseminate and implement them in each school participating in the project, which will also translate into long-term effects – increasing the effectiveness of English language teaching; 3) at least 80% of students participating in educational mobility will gain: a) an increase in competence in the field of communication in English, b) a deepened knowledge of “history round the corner” of schools participating in the project, increasing cultural awareness and sensitivity to history, tradition and culture while maintaining /deepening respect and openness to other nations and ethnic groups that make up the European community, c) growth of numerous social competences, such as the ability to work in a group, planning team work, exchanging views, d) developed skills in using ICT in the learning process, preparing and presenting educational projects, e) positive assessment of learning mobility, which may influence their choices in the future regarding education outside their country, within the EU.
In addition to the above, there will also be material results: conversation lesson programs in a foreign language for 2 years of elementary school with the use of the content from other subjects, related to the region in which individual schools are located; a publication with a description of the methods and tools used in curriculum and non-curriculum teaching of English; “e-diaries” of students from each mobility, maps, games, presentations etc. developed by participants of mobilities/local activities – all in English, and some also in native languages.
In the long term, we expect an increase in the effectiveness of English teaching, indicated, among others, in improvement in the results in national exams and internal surveys, as well as an increase of students’ awareness of “history round the corner” – the history of their region.
