Project Summary
The world of employment in our global society is changing permanently. Due to the rapid progress of the information technology, new occupational fields come up all the time, and traditional job profiles have to be modified. In future times our pupils have to orientate themselves to the European job market and have to hold their grounds against strong competitors. Our project aims to facilitate students’ school-to-work transition and make them aware of job opportunities in other EU countries. We believed that entrepreneurship, creativity, innovation and adaptation to the rapidly changing world of work is very significant for the future of the youth. All in all involving youth in European issues helped them get rid of their prejudice towards EU countries, made them willing to be active citizens and qualified workers of the EU and also motivatde them to continue their studies, preventing them from early school leaving. Realization of the project “Made by Two Hands – Regional Handicraft in Introducing Youth into European Labour Market” was to show pupils the EU in a positive light to the youth and encouraging their active involvement in EU issues. We wanted to strengthen international cooperation and knowledge of partners’ languages and cultures. We used IT to encourage communication and youth-friendly materials and activities to motivate their interest. In the course of the project students had the opportunity to learn more about the European Union and its member countries, about other cultures and ways of life and to make sure that people from various cultural backgrounds are able to work together to promote European values. The teachers had the chance to study the others’ countries educational systems, to exchange the experiences connected with work with pupils and parents and finally become more innovative. Through a diversity of activities (as aptitude, multiple intelligence tests, craft and jobs questionnaires and career orientation) the students’ positive attitude towards school increased, they kept coming to school, and we could encounter less early school leaving, while they became aware of the importance of school and education, of the necessity of graduating in order to enter the European, work market. Students developed their knowledge in different school subjects in the active way and found proper information concerning the labour market. Realization of the project took place through: – searching and working out the information about the dream jobs in different information sources – taking part in workshops: psychological ones and crafts – creating different handmade products , preparing multimedial presentations and exhibitions-preparation the small business plans -execution “little businesses”. The final effect of the project was connected with creation of the electronic book by the pupils, presenting the information about handicrafts, jobs both in English and the national language. The project also brought benefits to teachers who tred to experiment different teaching methods and approaches. A focus on the chosen traditional handicrafts and jobs of each country gave all participants the opportunity to raise their own cultural awareness . We learnt about the partner’s countries through getting knowing their educational systems, schools, region and country but from future work possibilities point of view. The partners started working out with their pupils what are the dream jobs for them and what are the future possibilities in the EU to study and work. They collecedt ideas and material, which were suitable for showing the job market in their country. The pupils worked about the traditional and modern professions and enriched their description with photos, interviews with businessmen, people doing interesting job, instruction how to write CVs. We expeced that with this project our students increase knowledge and awareness within certain areas ( job market, ICT usage, better English knowledge) and after checking the final evaluation results we are sure that all the expected aims of the project were achieved. The great success of the project is, in the students’ opinion, its attractive formula for the young people (a lot of varied tasks, systematic work, quickly appearing visible effects, numerous workshops, a lot of work with computers and modern tools). Students perceived the project as an attractive venture and approached it with great enthusiasm. After finishing it, they are asking for more.
