Project Summary

Five European schools joined an international project and developed innovative teaching techniques in order to improve the educational system by using Maths to solve real life problems.
The main idea that has led to this project was the fact that more then 73% of student from partner schools consider Maths impossible, boring and useless. This is why the students’ interest in Maths must be increased, the low achievers’ knowledge and skills must be improved. These goals can be reached by developing new learning materials and techniques.
The project “MATHS IN DAILY LIFE”aims to increase the students’ interest in studying Maths.
Specific Objectives:
– assist 40 teachers and 120 students to create innovative interdisciplinary materials;
– make 5 international exchanges until 01.09.2021;
– increase mathematical skills for 80% of students from 5 EU countries until 01.09.2021;
– encourage curiosity and creativity among students from 5 EU schools;
– develop connection between mathematics and real life;
– extend intercultural communication for 80% of participating students from 5 European schools until 01.09.2021;
– use inquiry-based learning to improve mathematics assessment.
The project is dedicated to students aged between 13 and 18 years from five European countries.
During the project, there will be five short term exchange of pupils for 120 students and 40 teachers.
The project’s activities are organized so that they will increase students’ motivation and curiosity in learning Math by developing new learning methods and inspiring them to learn by discovering, doing, thinking, creating, imagining, developing ICT skills.
In order to achieve the project’s goals, we use the inquiry-based learning method. Students will learn on their own that Maths, more than any other school object, has countless implications in real life.
Each partner will approach a different topic connected to math: MATHS & ART, MATHS IS FUN, MATHS IN MOTION, and MATHS IN SHAPES, INNOVATIVE MATHS METHODS. Due to a cross-curricular approach, students will make connections between Maths and Art, History, Music, Physical Education and ICT.
The project aims to obtain the following tangible results:project’s logo, presentations,brochure with poems, project’ song, project’s calendar, photos, drawings, surveys “Math in daily life – How Healthy Is Your Lifestyle?”, travel guide, videos “Using History to Teach Math”, toys with geometric shapes, questionnaires, project’s booklet and the DVD of the project.
The project aims to obtain the following intangible results: increase mathematic competence, improve maths assessment, stimulate teaching and learning and develop motivation for using cross-curricular materials and inquiry-based learning in the educational process.
“MATHS IN DAILY LIFE” project will develop a valid model of innovative methods used to teach and learn Math.
The project team is optimistic about the results of the international cooperation, considering that the project will lead to an international school, even after the EU funding is over.
