Project Summary
The project promotes the development of an ethical society in which the main values are democracy, substancial equality, ethics, justice, social inclusion and sustainability in respect of the human being and our planet.
We live in a historical period in which digital technology offers great opportunities but also a lot of risks.
One of the latest reports from REUTERS INSTITUTE,“Digital News Report” deals with the so-called “digital natives” who consider the Net as their main source of information.64% of people aged 18-24 and 58% aged 25-34 read the news online and, among them,33% among the youngest follow the news on social networks: (Facebook is the first 47%,Youtube 22%,Twitter 10%).It is therefore clear that the Net and socials will get more and more importance in the field of information in the future.Different sources state that the most important means are APPs of instant messaging such as Whatsapp,Twitter and Instagram. The transition from the use of traditional media to the new ones brings along the danger of a possible spread of disinformation:Fake News, and this might represent a threat to democracy.
Indeed, researches done by the postal police and other authorities have proved that the most politically radical or populist groups use the Net and the Web regularly as a vehicle for spreading ideas;hence, the idea of carrying out a project which,in the first place, considers critical education to media as a foundamental element for democracy and a positive growth of new generations.
The project involves 3 countries Italy,Romania and Germany, and 5 High Schools having many
years of experience in Media Literacy and a high level of competence with reference to the
activities of the project.90 students and 30 teachers will be involved in the project:two students’ exchanges will take place in Italy at Carate B.za (22 students), one in Germany (24 pupils), one in Romania (22 students) and one in Italy in Catania (22 pupils). Also 2 accompanying teachers for each school will take part in these international exchanges. Before them, some teachers of the different schools will attend a training course in Sicily to better know the themes, the tools and the methodology involved in the project itself to master the planned activities.
