Project Summary

The main objective of the project was to fight prejudices and to help participants to develop open-mindedness and tolerance towards other cultures and nationalities overcoming their pre-conceived notions and stereotypical ideas. The age of our target groups of pupils was 14-18 years old. We believed that our innovative educational approaches would help the shift from old paradigms of teaching to new ones according to the 21st century learner-centred multimedia environment, with the teacher acting as a facilitator for the acquisition of knowledge. Our Partnership included secondary schools from France, Greece, Italy, Finland and Turkey. The partner organisations shared common interests as well as the ambition to enhance cross-culture connectedness, to use various ICT applications, to foster leadership and media training, community service, and educational travel. The various profiles of our organisations, whose role in the project was specific and well defined, contributed to the fair distribution of tasks, and enriched our endeavour to provide modern education with innovative tools. This, to a great extent, bridged the gap between the restricted curricular opportunities and young people’s real needs for their future educational and career development. The concrete objectives of this Partnership were: To develop clear strategies, vision and impact by creating a storyboard and an animated movie as innovative educational approaches To develop a cadre of young leaders who would share their knowledge and skills with their peers through positive action; To develop a commitment to transnational cooperation and internationalisation of in English; To share each partner’s innovative teaching methods and good practices, in order to modernise education education; To foster relationships between young people from different ethnic, religious, and national groups allowing efficient communication. Firstly, the project enabled the participants to re-discover their own customs, traditions, mythical and symbolic characters of their respective country and then share this knowledge with their partners. Their search results were presented via PPTs and movies … From the various characteristics and stereotypical ideas previously shared by every country, each participant had to create a new character combining mental and physical characteristics of all participant countries. In Finland the participants voted for the most representative of the five candidates and that was the Finnish creation. Our fictional character was named “Gifft”, from the initials of the participant countries.They created a PPT about common prejudices regarding their allotted country. Every country created an adventure of “Gifft”, our fictional character, who travelled to all participant countries on a mission from the EU-to examine whether or not prejudices are based on reality or things are actually different. Every partner also had to produce the storyboard for their respective adventure compiled in a booklet. Every country also created a cover for this booklet.These episodes were also filmed by every country in stop-motion and assembled into a full movie by the coordinators. The Italian partner also created a version of the film in 3D animation using the Muvizu software. There were also a multitude of other activities organised thematically in every host country during LTT meetings. In Turkey, (meeting moved to France for geopolitical reasons), the theme was traditional theatre with students working on and creating a shadow theatre play. In Finland we worked on traditional games, sports and handicrafts. The students also worked on the stop motion technique. In Greece the theme was traditional dances and Turkish and Greek language lessons. These lessons were connected to a multilingual dictionary activity that was carried out by all participants in written and audio form.
In Italy the theme was music and singing. The Italian partners organised a concert in which each member presented a traditional and a modern song. We also created new lyrics for “Ode to Joy” related to the theme of overcoming prejudices and promoting unity among countries. This was sung in Italy by all partners collectively. In the final meeting in France the theme was traditional food. Every country presented their cooking traditions and prepared a characteristic national menu to be included in the MEET cookbook published by the coordinators. In France we had the first projection of the full Gifft movies in both versions. The materials produced in the course of the MEET project (multilingual dictionary, Greek and Turkish lessons, our ‘Ode to Joy’ version, the cookbook, the storyboard and the GIFFT films will also be used in the future as teaching aids for various subjects by all participants. Other schools will also gain access to these materials via publication of materials and dissemination activities.
