Project Summary
The project “MULTICULTURALISM: CULTURE AND HERITAGE”, has been aimed at young students, children between 9 and 12 years old, and is related to their experiences, their celebrations, traditions, folklore, legends… In short, with its culture and heritage. This has provided opportunities for new expansions in different areas of the curriculum and in different age groups. Sharing friendships and cooperating with other children from other countries has also provided opportunities for cultural understanding, European citizenship, language development, within the context of international education.
The exchange of materials through ICT tools (for Skype, Zoom, chats, emails, forums, Powerpoint, publishing school websites, creating a photo album andwebsite, videos, drawings, photos) has been very important for the development of this project and the social skills of our Educational Communities. Cooperative work between the four participating centres has been a great opportunity for all, but especially for the three more rural centres(Ussel,Aguilar and Priollo). However, individualized learning and self-confidence have also been fostered.
Social inclusion, equal opportunities and ICTs as a tool for transmitting their own values and knowledge have been the keys to our project.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
1- Children understand that language and social differences are not barriers to communication and common work among European citizens
2- Bringing citizens and young people closer to knowledge and respect for other countries
3- Compare different European cultures: explore new forms of dialogue and contacts through traditions, celebrations, folklore, legends…, from different countries.
4- Stimulate skill in detailed observation; Learn to distinguish between what unies us and what sets us apart.
5- know and recognize their own culture and their social and cultural reality.
6- Stimulating creativity in the reuse of acquired knowledge
7- Write short and informative texts.
8- Making connections between different school subjects
9- Prepare presentations with their celebrations and traditions.
10- Learn songs and rhymes.
11- implement skills in the use of non-linguistic communication.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
• Increase the curiosity, attention, availability, democracy, sensitivity and respect of other people and cultures.
• Gain confidence and self-esteem
• Being able to interact with others
• Establish friendships
• Cooperate in the implementation of a common project
• Knowing, recognizing and giving value to diversity
• Enhancing an attitude of curiosity and respect for different cultures
. Taking advantage of analogies and differences between different environments and cultures
• Recognize and overcome prejudice
• Express feelings and emotions
The methodology used has been focused on the student and its environment the students have actively participated in the project. We have worked in groups thus promoting cooperative work.
In addition, a globalized approach and a more integrated and meaningful understanding of learning through guided discovery and cooperative work have been made possible in projects based on real and near situations.
Their creativity has been fostered in the broad sense of the word, since from acquired knowledge it was themselves who have produced their own materials.
We firmly believe that our project has had a big impact on students, families and teachers and even the nearest environment: on students, as it has changed the way they understand the teaching-learning process, and they have learned to share with others. This project has approached new cultures, improved their language skills, in their own language since they have worked the same from very different aspects, but also from the rest of the languages (Italian, French, Romanian) since some of the shared activities are in the language itself. And also English because we have sometimes used it as a common vehicular language.
Families have been actively involved in the transmission of knowledge. There have been activities that would not have been possible without this collaboration.
The participating faculty has collaborated and been thoroughly involved in the project and activities improving their skills in the organization of large projects and cooperation in an international context. As well as your English and even other language skills from participating countries.
In all centres, the collaboration of local and regional institutions has been essential.
All materials created will remain in the respective schools for a period of time and some are visible on the project website.
