Project Summary

At Middleschool Herzogenaurach are increasingly instructed students from deprived parental homes with a low level of education. Almost 50 percent have a migration background. Because of numerous lacks in personal and social areas on behalf of the students the school is trying now to focus more on music. It has been scientifically cristallised, that music is motivating, forming personality and facilitating contacts. Music opens borders between people, no matter of which language or culture. These experiences should be passed on from student to student and be carried out in the school routine. As we wanted to avoid language barriers, we decided on a German speaking partner school. With the Austrian partner school there are interferences as well as differences in cultural heritage. By the cultural exchange we expect a stronger cohesion within Europe and an opening of the mental borders. Making music together helps the students in both countries to strengthen their personalities as well as their social and cultural awareness.

The participants of both schools will be in each case the beginners. The acitvities help to get acquainted with each other, mainly to practice and make music together and also to find rules for human relations. The students are to learn from each other and to increase understanding for each other. In addition to, the European spirit should be encouraged thereby. Making music together supports the co-operation among the students and learning holistically. Our students shall learn for their later lifes. We expect from them a process of maturing, initiated by the music and the partnership with the foreign classes.
