Project Summary
The project ” My Skills, My Future” has established the transnational cooperation among Croatia, Poland, Germany, Italy and Spain, not only during the two life years of the project, but it has also became a sousteinable project that will last in time. It willl allow future cooperation among the different partners of the project, and it is going to continue with a new Erasmus+ KA229 project (courses 19/21) where three of the partners still continue working together and where we have added two new partners, who will enrich and be enriched with the project.
Moreover, we will use the activities and methodologies produced during our project with the future students at school in order to spread the experience to new learners and to foster sousteinability in time.
This project has directly included 17 Spanish students, 14 Italian, 15 Polish, 17 Croatian and 15 German in mobilities. We also included more than 300 students of all the countries in the rest of activities such as competitions, presentations…They were aged 13-16; we included students who live far from the capital city and who suffer geographical obstacles, and who belong to middle class families, so they wouldn’t have had the opportunity of travelling abroad if they hadn’t participated in an experience such as Erasmus+.
This project emerged due to the common needs of all the partners about improving reading, wrtiting, listening and speaking in their students.
This lack of abilities had an important role in early school leaving and we decided to tackle it. Besides, we we were aware of the need of improving our methodology in order to foster creativity and to increase the interest of our learners. Therefore, we have focussed the leaning process not in the teacher, but on the students and we have increased their active participation in activities such as the production of videos, brochures, comics, reviews, recipes, postcards, invitations and even TV programmes…
After these two years, we can check that our students have increased their skills results; which has contributed to tackle early school leaving and to improve their opinion about the importance of learning English. Students and teachers have also improved their Digital and Artistics Competence.
All of this was due to activities such as:
– listening: matching heading with paragraphs strategy, open ended questions strategy, completing the sentences strategy, multiple choice strategy, watching documentaries and films with English subtitles, creating a song :
– reading: missing sentences strategy, putting the paragraphs into the correct order strategy, true/false strategy, vocabulary in a text strategy, reading articles, short summaries of some narratives, poetry and prose, news
– writing:travel guide, tourist brochures, a report, film/book/band reviews, an article, Christmas and Easter cards/emails, summaries, leaflets, an argumentative essay, a recipe, writing a narrative story, a postcard, an informal letter, an advertisement, , a description
– speaking: interviews, audioguides, drama, poem recitation, audio guides, oral presentations, The TV programme “Skill4all news”, panel talk
– artistic: logo, painting session, national/regional dances, comics , crafts, costumes made from recycled materials, preparing healthy and nutritious food, recycling workshop, drawings, photography
– digital : photography exhibition, quiz, Power Point presentations, filming a movie, digital comics, video presentations, e-croscrosswords, digital brochures, questionnaire, e-magazine, e-articles
These activities have enriched our sstudents providing them with important values like tolerance and solidarity, they have learned about other cultures (Literature, Geography, Music, traditions, meals..), they have learned key values about susteinability and environment, European citizenship on an active way due to the visit to important institutions such as the City Hall, Delegation, and even the Croatian Parliament, where they could ask and check about the daily life there.
Besides, their linguistic competence increased and they have become aware of the importance of speaking languages in our nowadays society. They have changed their mind since they thought that languages weren’t important in their villages, but now and due to this opportunity, they became aware of the opportunities promoted by speaking foreign languages.
Implementing this project has also allowed teachers to develop new digital tools as Google Maps, Google Earth, Canvas, Kahoot, edPuzzle, Pixton, Play Comic… and to change our methodology, which is now focussed on the students, and which promotes their active engagement. Therefore, we have promoted real communicative situations, learning based on projects…
