Project Summary

The local youth in and around Tõrva have been carrying out a temporary youth radio named Tõrva Raadio for over two years. This radio brings together the youth in the region, offers them a chance to develop themselves and contribute to the local community. Organizing the radio includes technical management, marketing, advertising, operating a studio, the news and managing the program etc. All of these areas have a person responsible for them, a young person, who can develop their enterpreneurial, organizatory, planning, financing skills and many more. These are all skills and characteristics, that benefit young people in the future, either as future enterpreneurs or wage workers.

Conducting a youth radio is also an amazing chance for these people to express their opinions, interests and desires and make them heard throughout the community. These young people have the ability to shine a light on problems plaguing the community, offer solutions publicly and call people of influence to a public discussion.
The idea behind a youth radio and the practical side’s development in Estonia and elsewhere help young people of rural areas develop in enteprise and draw attention to the problems of the community. First and foremost the radio is a tool for young people to get real world experience!

The project at hand is aimed at distributing Tõrva Raadio’s successful practices and carry it out internationally. The project will feature two meetingw with a foreign partner, DD8 Music from Scotland, which has been involved with a voluntary band room and recording studio and which’s youth wish to try their hand at youth radio. The aim of these meeting is to exchange experiences and developing youth radio and the youth involved. The project will involve about 25 young people from both countries. The methodics used in the project are informal and the methods are based and aimed at youth learning and exchange of experiences.

The project lasts from the June of 2017 to November 2017. The meetings will take place in July. Outside of the meetings there will be activities (training, team events and analysis seminars) among partners separately, but the results and activities will be communicated.
The indirect goal of the project is to encourage other organizations across the EU to undertake similar projects and activities and to further develop the communities and the young people involved in youth radios.
