Project Summary
This project takes place in two different vocational schools, specializing in optician training. The first school is France in the town of Cholet “La Providence” and the other is in Poland in the town of Poznań “Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych im”. The project is for students in their first or second year of their A levels (Baccalauréat), between 15 and 18 years old. The European aspect of this project is fundamental to both structures since it fits into a context of exchange and cultural development. In addition to the lingusitic asset (english), the professional aspect is also a major trait of this program. Beyond practical excercises, an exchange enables the young to experiment what an opticians’ is like, in France and in Poland. This will give the participant a realistic vision of the opportunitites in both countries. Developing cultural activities in that exchange will add to the pedagogical aspect with an opening on Europe, which is valuable for the personal development of a vocational school student. Through various acitivites in France and Poland, the students will discover, compare and share skills and knowledge specific to each country. This exchange will be an oppotunity to develope a cross-disciplinary approach in different modules such as french, english, art, sport, history and vocational learning. New vocational school programs give a specific importance to this transversality and an insight into Europe by offering the possibility, through programs like Erasmus+, to carry out their professional training in a foreign environment, inside the European Union. It is precisely this dimension that enables the teaching team to cover both civil and society issue subjects, as well as how cultural exchanges play a crucial role in developing an open mind to others.
Professional skills will be shared by the participants in France and Poland, thus giving them an insight into new ways of functioning, as well as opportunities to specialise, find internships and perhaps even: jobs. Thanks to two preliminary work trips, P1 and P2, we will be able to create this program that has the objective of building up partnerships between the two schools, exchanging trainees, KA 102 and exchanging employees in new profesional environments (KA 101) for them to follow classes and take part in the life of a french or polish school. Passing on to the youth the notion of mobility, at a time when social networks surround them, is a key point of this project. Digital tools that favor the younger generations, for communication, learning and discovering do not only revolve around virtual communication. We give importance to the understanding of this idea and it should enable the youth, through the exchange, to understand the concept of integration. We chose to work with a polish school because of the current economical growth of the countrt and widespread use of the English language. Our goal is to show the students the importance of European shared experiences by giving them a practical professional program with various activities and one common aspect : Optician training. The activities will show the diversity and multitude of job opportunities within this field. The participant will discover the importance of language in retail, in workshops and developing the ability respond to the client’s expectations, whilst adapting oneself to the country’s requirements. A successful exchange will give to the student all these assets with a main focus : enabaling them to construct themselves as European citizens.
