Project Summary

OFFSHORE was born from the will of four language teachers to set up an international European project to enable their students from Fougères, Brittany, France and Örnskölsvik, Sweden to build bridges between their cultures, while being 3,000 km away from one another, and work towards reaching unity in diversity.
Achieving 3 main objectives, 30 Swedish students and 30 French students aged 16 to 18 will travel from the past to the future with their teachers during the whole school year:
PAST sharing their historical and cultural roots : Celts and Scandinavian legends, King Arthur’s legends, corsairs and seamen, from medieval times to cold war.
PRESENT discovering their school systems and daily life in both countries, France and Sweden. Observing how students migrating from other countries are included in their respective schools.
FUTURE working on climate change and environmental issues.
The learning, teaching and training activities will follow those objectives according to the set agenda, using e Twinning, padlets and Skype, providing exhibits, reports and press articles. Implemented in English and French, the activities will improve the students’ language skills on the one hand, and social, environmental, historical, cultural and scientific skills on the other hand, along with tolerance and acceptance of other cultures, sharing abilities and transcultural teamwork.
The activities will be framed by two climactic moments :
13 October 2019 – 20 October 2019 Visit of the Swedish group to Fougères, France. The students will be hosted by their French correspondents.
3 May 2020 to 10 May 2020. Visit if the French group to Ornskölsvik, Sweden. The students will be hosted by their Swedish correspondents.
OFFSHORE will be advertised and supported within our 2 schools Lycée Jean Guéhenno FOUGERES and Höga Kusten Teoretiska Gymnasiet, ÖRNSKÖLSVIK, in our town councils and in the local press.
The long term benefits are personal fulfilment and development for our students who living remotely from larger city centres gain a reduced access to cultural diversity. The project will help them to build their European identity as full European citizens and set up a fruitful long term friendship with their foreign correspondents. The teachers will develop their teaching skills by the common observation of their professional practice and the discovery of another school system. In the long run, OFFSHORE aims at integrating two other schools in Germany and Spain to promote language skills and European values.
