Project Summary

The Erasmus + journey “Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in our languages, an ICTE course” (” Parcours TICE « l’Éducation au Développement Durable (EDD) dans nos langues »), outlined with the Occitan pedagogical advisors of the Montpellier education authority (Académie) and led by the CIRDOC (Interregional Centre For The Development Of Occitan), has brought together 8 partners in 4 European regions (Occitanie Region, Aran, Aosta Valley and Piedmont) in which 6 languages are spoken : Occitan, Francoprovençal, Catalan, Spanish, French and Italian.
All partners completed one another within the project: a local government, a cultural institution, schools of very different types, teachers’ associations.
The project also benefited from the very active participation of the ICTE and Occitan instructors and pedagogical advisors of the DSDEN of the Académie de Montpellier.

Our goal? To help teachers and students from these European regions meet, share their experience and work together on the education for sustainable development and the use of new technologies while making the most of a tremendous asset to have this discussion on a European level: whichever country they are from, all participants learn and teach in a bi/plurilingual school environment, where classes are taught in two languages or more.
The program took place for two years, to the rhythm of:
4 cross-border conferences and workshops for the training of teachers ;
3 school exchanges between students aged 10-12 from Marvejols (Occitanie Region, France), Vielha (Aran, Spain) and Morgex (Aosta Valley, Italy).
collaborative projects undertaken in the classes of all four regions (digital games).
Intercomprehension in romance languages was a core transversal working theme within the project.

The project ends up having instigated tight collaborative links between the European students and teachers who have worked together toward developing innovating practices ; and helped create reusable educational and didactical tools available to all teachers online, in a lasting way, at occitanica.eu/edd-lengas:
– 3 adventure online games about sustainable development and learning romance languages ; the three stoylines (one for each cycle) are built around about 40 mini-games, designed by the teachers during the first year ;
– about sixty digital games created by the students ;
– didactical worksheets and resources on how to use the games in class
– a workbook of 35 science experiments to better understand the environment, offered in five different linguistic versions, corresponding to the languages used to teach classes by the participants (Aranese Occitan, Lengadocian Occitan, Italian, French, English);
– 3 complete evaluation kits (one per cycle) to assess the students’ digital and linguistics skills as well as knowledge about sustainable development, using the digital games created for the project ;
the content of the lectures given for the training conferences.

The project has directly involved more than 700 students from “grande section de maternelle” to high school through activities in class ; besides remote corespondences, meetings between the participants have contributed to rich exchanges with 396 student mobilities and 120 teacher mobilities led during two years.
