Project Summary

In a Europe that tends to appear more divided, information and education about human rights, collaboration and communication between countries is not only rewarding but essential. Our objectives are increased civic engagement, connecting young people and promoting the European cultural values. Doing this internationally in collaboration with an school in another country, will also give the students inspiration, memories for life and a natural and effective opportunity to strengthen their language skills.
The Raoul Wallenberg The Cube-method ”Every person can make a difference” aims to inform students about human rights and equality. As part of the project, black “cubes” (3*3*3 meters), are sent to selected high schools around Sweden, and also to some schools in the rest of the world. The students are given the opportunity to creatively interpret one of the thirty human rights from the UN Declaration of Human Rights. This is done through texts, images, film, theater, or installations inside the cube. The students also discuss human rights, civil courage, and how one can make a difference, with the help of the pedagogical toolkit provided as part of the project.
The Ekliden school in Nacka Sweden have been participating in the Cube-project for two years and see it as a great way to introduce the students to discussions about human rights. To further develop this project, to motivate and give the students a greater sense of international togetherness, we started to look for a partner outside of Sweden to collaborate with. We find it very important that the students see themself in a context outside their county, city and country. The Ekliden school has about 870 students ages 12-16, the department of the school most involved in this project is 160 students specializing in history, social studies and civics.
In France we found LGT René Gosse a school of simular size and a vast experience in international collaboration.
The project includes essay writings in english with human right subjects like” Equality”, “heroes”, “role modells” or “movements”. At the four mobilities, involving a total number of 70 students, we will have human rights workshops, debates and public exibitions of our work and intrepretations of our article. All results will be published in an eMagazine. In 2022 the human rights article 24 “right to rest and leisure” will be in focus, here we are going to explore the differences and simularities between in activities between young people from different European countries.
Every year as a part of the rememberence of Raoul Wallenberg Day the 28 of august each year, the cubes are put on display in Kungsträdgården in central Stockholm, with the purpose of initiating debate about human rights, civil courage, and equality. In 2019 more than 3000 people came to the opening of the Cubes. The two schools will here both in the year 2021 and 2022, have a combined exibition showcasing our collaboration and interpretations in two Cubes with the same human rights article.
