Project Summary
The project is based on the research we did that revealed that students have to face some unpleasant patterns of behavior, such as bullying, verbal and physical aggression, peer pressure and rejection. Our Project includes activities that are focused on mutual understanding, tolerance, multiculturalism, and civic spirit. The project aims to develop empathy by intercultural cooperation and communication among five European countries. The Five Factor Model strategy is used to promote willingness towards experience, conscientiousness agreeability, extraversion and neuroticism. This method will enable our students to become more aware of the European values and prepare them to live in a multicultural society.
The project “PEER IMPRESSION” involves 5 schools from 5 European countries: PT,it, GR, RO, TR. According to the SWOT analysis done by each partner in their institution, the partners indentified a series of common needs that lead to the decision to implement a project about tolerance. Violence, aggression, intolerance, racism, ethnic discrimination are tendencies that can be observed in the behavior of the students from all the partner countries.
We intend to exploit the digital tools to produce new teaching and learning strategies based on ICT which will increase the students’ motivation to study.
The learner-centered techniques will improve the students’ critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication, especially in English as this is the main language of the project. The international environment of the project will offer the students the chance to acquire knowledge of other European culture and civilization.
The project coordinator did a survey on tolerance in the European countries. The results showed that there is a tendency to accept higher levels of intolerance and aggression.
The project involves 13-18-year-old teenagers from five European countries. The project should be done at a transnational level so that the European values will be promoted.
We decided to use the ICT tools and FFM (five factor model)-willingness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeability and neuroticism-to achieve our objectives.Willingness to experience means that the students will use art to express themselves. They will create the movie ‘Tolerance through my eyes’, digital photos, storyline for the Forum theatre and the artistic moment for the festival of tolerance.
The objectives of the projects are:
-to develop civic competence and increase self-esteem of 150 students from 5 EU countries
-to define tolerance and mutual understanding at an international level
-to make students get socially involved
-to promote cooperation and communication based on diverse culture and civilization
-to increase the feeling of belonging regarding the EU community
The project will develop the students’:
-awareness regarding multiculturalism
-willingness to take action, free thinking, cultural knowledge
-respect for all human beings
