Project Summary

There is no one universal definition of art, though there is a general consensus that art is the conscious creation of something beautiful or meaningful using skill and imagination. The definition and perceived value of works of art have changed throughout history and in different cultures. For example will creativity have many different definitions and perspectives, depending on the culture, the society, and the circumstances of which the definition is formed. Creativity and art can have many forms and shapes, many values and etic meanings and the success will be evaluated from that individual perspective. And still you find common goals, common visions because art in the end could be defined as something that gives each person aesthetic

What we saw in the student’s work process was that art brought them together in a journey to express themself, understand themself and understand other people on a deeper and more emotional level.
Art is generally understood as any activity or product done by people with a communicative or aesthetic purpose—something that expresses an idea, an emotion or, more generally, a world view. It is a component of culture, reflecting economic and social substrates in its design. Exactly therefore art can be an amazing tool for students from different cultural backgrounds to discuss values in life.

In every mobility we had the cultural heritage as an important foundation for the choice of art (painting, drama, digital art, moviemaking, etc.).

In Bursa we found some old ancient ways to perform art, working with puppet theater had a both artistic angles, but also a performing perspective and it gave the students an excellent opportunity to discuss the fundamentals of building a society, human values and of course humor as a way to allow those discussion to evolve. The two partly fictive characters Karagoz and Hacivat played an important part in the building of Bursa and as their characters was very familiar to the students, is gave some very essential discussions about “your contributions to society”.

In Denmark the focus was a more digital approach to art, producing E-books in Bookcreator and finding the cultural background in Hans Christian Andersens fairytales. Discussion on how we create the world happiest country was a perfect scenario for the students to evolve their priorities and their contributions to the social context they live in. How do we create the best school, the best friendship, the best workplace – what are the essential values that we need. An interesting enough they students learned that not all values are equivalent important in our countries. Values like humor, honesty, religion/faith, social life is looked at in very different ways.

Spain is famous for many of the world best painters. Allowing the students to create a mural at the school wall was amazing. Discussions about how we want other country to see us created a perfect follow up from the discussions in Denmark. The essentials of being human, being a society/country is based upon the conflict of being who I am and who others want me to be. The students became richer on their journey to understand themselves and the understanding of others (with a different cultural background). One of the goals of the Erasmus+ program. And it became clear that art has that unique way of giving those discussion an authentic approach to the students.

Italy is famous for their Filmindustri and working alongside a very skill and talented director was for all the students a dream come true. Working with an almost professional approach at creating different types of short films was veery inspiring for all of us. From the understanding of who we are, to the expression on how we show it, once again build another layer to our project. The films were shown in the local theater and the feeling of common joy, proudness and the fulfilling of a dream was obvious for everybody.

Finally in Greece we were supposed to before “live on stage”, doing drama. Unfortunately, COVID 19 stopped us from travelling, but luckily through the skilled hands of an expert drama teacher, the Greek mobility was a huge success. The students used to COVID 19 situation and the journey of Odessey to extract important values in society through crises, and to set it together in a performance made by each country’s students and share to one collaborative work, containing both, drama, singing, poetry and painting was the perfect finale to a very successful Erasmus+ project.

We really felt the students was on the perfect journey with each partners cultural heritage in the backpack and experiencing, through art, how they can become strong individuals that through understanding of themselves and others, can become social European citizens and strong ambassadors for future European projects to unite and strengthen to European community.
