Project Summary
RE³ is a project which deals with the overall topic of sustainability and consists of three complementary aspects REplace, REduce, REuse. Whereas the aspect Replace focuses on using environmentally friendly goods instead of goods which are harmful to the environment, Reduce means to produce less environmentally unfriendly leftovers as well as consuming less of our resources in total. This ranges from producing less waste to fine dust or (micro)plastic. The aspect REuse should deal with how goods can be reused. Upcycling can serve here as a prominent example.
Each of the three participants including the Peder Skrivares skola enhet 4 (Sweden), Our Lady of Mercy Beaumont (Ireland) and the Staatliche Fach- und Berufsoberschule Neuburg (Germany) will focus on one of the above mentioned aspects. Over the course of RE³ each school creates projects based on their allocated focus as well as their needs and environmental conditions and realizes them. After their realization, the projects are evaluated and finally uploaded on a homepage so that the other participants can access, realize and evaluate them too. The realization of each one´s projects is the centre of each mobility. Each project should address the reduction of CO² emissions and fine dust, foster a responsible handling of resources so that our planet is protected. While the Swedish school focuses on the aspect Reuse, the Irish school´s task is to create projects around Replace and the German school deals with the aspect Reduce. Having three schools in three different countries with individual perspectives and conditions in the project the horizon of each participant is broadening since every school faces different problems as well as challenges the other schools might not be even aware of. Thus, by exchanging our experiences every participating school can profit from taking part.
We firmly believe that the participating students, the corresponding families, teachers and whole schools should come to realize that even small changes can have a positive impact on the environment. It is therefore our main goal that each participant creates projects that can also be implemented in the daily school routine of the others. By publishing the projects on a homepage (via eTwinning) not only the three participants but also interested schools or parties worldwide can access, share and implement the RE³ projects in their lifestyle – no matter whether private or public institutions so that a common engagement or participation as well as civic engagement can be achieved across the globe. Consequently, we set ourselves to turn the passive awareness of the current climate problematic led by many young people into an active participation of taking care of our planet. We believe that this is what the European Union stands for after all – responsible citizens who actively live their life by acting in concert. This is especially in times of apparent right-wing shifts across the world of paramount importance.
