Project Summary

Social inclusion of asylum seekers, refugees and economic migrants is strictly linked to the acquisition of transversal social skills, involving not only the language, but also the ability to interact in new contexts, in order to be able to develop positive and effective (linguistic as well as communicative) strategies for their inclusion in the host countries.
The REMINT project proposal aims to give a contribution to a wider use of non-traditional teaching methods that can be able to make the learning of this essential skills set (a “Toolkit”) easier, more motivating and more effective for these groups of final beneficiaries.
The objective of the project was twofold: the first was to train teachers and instructors working with political refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants through the sharing of good practices used by the partners involved in the project and each interested teacher / trainer, the second one was to improve the social and labor inclusion of final beneficiaries: political refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants. 6 partners compose the partnership of the project, ICT Verdi (Italy), Centro Machiavelli (Italy), INCOMA (Spain), CLP (UK), EELI (Greece), Studiefrämjandet Södra Dalarna (Sweden). Over 100 teachers contributed directly or was directly involved to the various project activities: international meetings, Short Term Joint Staff Training, Toolkit creation, toolkit testing and workshops that took place within the partner associations. In addition to this, thousands of people have been informed of the results of the project through dissemination activities. Among the final results, in addition to the direct involvement of many dozens of teachers, the most important was the creation of a 146-page Handbook (the Toolkit) which describes the good teaching practices shared, exchanged and used by the project partners. To get to the final draft of the Toolkit, the project followed several stages. In the first one the practices to be shared were decided, therefore they were shared among the teachers / trainers of the partner association through a Short Term Joint Staff Training. Thus, the activities were tested with partner students. Finally, the complete Toolkit was presented to the teachers / trainers working in the partner institutions and to all the interested subjects through specific Workshops. The Handbook can be downloaded online free of charge as OER from all the websites of the partner associations for the benefit of all those interested in learning about new methods of language and socio-cultural learning.
